Post subject:  03 Rear Window Wiper

Anyone have any good ideas on how to keep the stupid wiper arm attached to the blade? Yesterday I turned it on, and the blade flew off and the metal went scratching across my back window. Not a good sound by the way. I have hated that attachment method that Jeep used ever since I first looked at it.

Any ideas, besides tying it together or superglue? hehehehe

Post subject:  Wiper arm assembly

Perhaps I didn't explain it correctly. The blade is fine. The part I am speaking about is the "U" shaped peice that holds the blade assembly. The arm (connected to the wiper motor) ends in a bent "U" shape. The blade assembly has a plastic "U" shape that slips into place on the metal arm. The problem is, for me, that this always slips back out and it constantly seems like it will fall out. Will a whole new assembly fix this? Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

I've never had any problems with the rear blade coming off while in use. Are you sure yours isn't broken in some way?

Doesn't appear to be. The "U" shape simply slips out and I find myself checking it to slide it tight again. Since we all have KJs this must be more common. I personally hate this "U" shape thing. You would think it could have been designed a bit better.

The "U" shape design is the most common connector for new vehicles. The plastic lock tab on the wiper may be broke, you wouldn't really notice it unless you really look,it's most likely the wiper.

Yeah. I've never had issues with wipers either. Of course, I'm in Arizona, so they dont see much use.

I just tried to replace my rear wiper. The metal arm with the U shape does not have a notch for the clip to lock into. The clip on the blade seems to be unique. It is wider than a standard ANCO. I am looking for a proper replacement now.

i had that issue where the wiper kept falling off while in use. i bought a bosch wiper - it came with a super special u locking thing for just such an occasion. bosch's are wonderful things. no troubles since.

Tell me about it. I'm a BIG fan of Napa Exact Fit blades, and they, as well as 99% of the other blades that are made, don't work on the rear of the KJ. They fit good and all, they just dont lock, so they'd fly off.

I ended up having Jon (screen name of -=jon=-) get one for me and ship it down here (and it still came out to being cheaper than the dealer, which was the only place around here I could find a blade and it was like $20. There is a store up near him that stocks the right size blade that will work on the arm. Matter of fact I think he's still got one.

I think i might have a solution that could solve our problem however. I'm going to, in the next month or so, dill a hole in the arm, about where it SHOULD be. This, in theory, should allow the other 99% of the blades to work on that particular arm.

So the wiper assembly is the problem? I saw a "shadow" on the clip area where there used to be something. Or could have been wishful thinking. Should I get a new assembly? Will the wiper still be wrong anyways?

Thanks

I'm telling you, for the $10.00 you'll spend at the parts counter @ your local dealership - you will not have to worry about the blade falling off the wiper arm. I'm on my 3rd rear window blade now (all mopar) and have never had a problem.

Hmm, two threads about the same thing.

I never use the rear wiper enough to need a new one anyway. It still looks like new after 3 years. :)
