Now that the weather has been really bad I've been using my 4x4 and I have had a few times where I have slid a little bit. I have an '06 so it has the ESP and I have yet to see the light go on. I tried even driving in 2wd in the snow and it felt like the ESP was working anytime I slid but the light never went on. Is the light supposed to go on when the ESP is activated???

Yes and no. The ESP light on the dash indicates an error in the system and should not normally light up while running.
The ESP icon (the swerving Jeep) should flash when ESP is active. It is fairly far down on the panel, you may not be seeing it.
Deactivate ESP and the icon will light continuosly.

well, in theory, but it may not come on... just an observation.

Mine flashes, it goes on and off really quick and if you just slid a little you might not notice it. Get out and play a little and let us know if it comes on or not.

In my experiences, it has come on only in a sideways slip, like going around a slick corner and have the thing try to spin out.

Ill try to see if I can get it to go on, maybe I'll try with a passenger in the car watching for the light. I know the light itself works because if I hit the ESP Off button it stays lit.

If it is just traction control it will not light but if you go sideways it will.
