My brother has a 95 GC and my other brother and him just put in a new engine this week, they finished putting on the alternator and the rest of the electrical tonight and got the jeep to turn over but it shuts off in about 3-5 seconds and the security light flashes. I asked if they replaced the ECU and they said no, thinking that the ECU would have to be reprogrammed for his keys... Has anyone heard of this before? Thanks |

Does it have a security system on it? If so, aftermarket or OEM? I'm dont know much about how those systems work, but i've seen in other vehicles where the Immobilizer (the thing that shuts off the engine if you've got the wrong key, or when somebody who's not supposed to be in there is) goes bad...and it thinks you're trying to "steal" it, so it cuts the fuel to the engine. Again, I dont know much about the ZJ's, or the security systems, this is just what i've seen from other vehicles, and one thing i'd check into. |

Did you try locking and unlocking the driver door with the key? |

We have a 94 Grand.. Sometimes if the battery has been unhooked, weve got to unlock the tailgate. The drivers door will NOT work. |

i just read about this in my owners manual on my kj because i saw the light and didnt know what it was for. apparently the keys have some kind of chip or something in the key. if the vechicle doesnt recognize it, it will shut off, therefore preventing hot-wiring, or some other method... |

OK I call him and see if the tail gate thing works, like I said, the key and the ignition and the ECU are all the same, just the engine was replaced. I know my Honda had to have the key reprogrammed and the radio if the ECU was unhooked. I was thinking for now they might beable to just do a by-pass on the security like you do when you install a new alarm system. his is the factory alarm. thanks for the feed back, Ill keep checking back to see what else you guys come up with. |

AWSOME, lock the jeep from the inside, close the doors, unlock the tail with the key and then unlock the drivers door with key and then start her up works great. BIG thanks to Jeepjeepster |
