Post subject:  Lock cylinder replacement question.

I made a post earlier about having my lock gouged out but now I have an update. The actual lock has not sustained any damage, only the outer shell part. I found this online

I wanted to know if it was worth the 35 dollars to buy this replacement cylinder. I'd like to take it apart and leave the guts from my original lock. I'm trying to avoid the locksmith. Here's what I'm working with.

Here's my original lock, the key still works perfectly, the only thing missing is the spring loaded cover.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

IF it's just the face cap (spring loaded cover) and nothing else, then a locksmith can replace just the face cap. Strattec, who makes the OEM locksets, sells replacement face caps for door/trunk locks for the locks they supply. I know you're trying to avoid the locksmith, but pending that is all thats bent/broken/assaulted, then thats all you need is a new face cap for it and a locksmith should/can supply one.

Try finding a locksmith who will work with you in ordering just the cover/face cap for the lock. Otherwise, work with one to just get ahold of a replacement door lock cylinder uncoded w/out keys and do the labor yourself.
