My "chrome" caps keep falling off my lugs. Whats a good aftermarket company that has a similar style lug. I checked at the parts store and all they have a nasty plated ones that will look bad quick. |

My caps started falling off at 40,000 miles. If no one recommends anything cool, I guess I'll just settle for the regular half-inch ones you by for $1 each. |

I replaced those nasty caps long time ago. I went over to Pep Boys and bought a chrome set with locks for around $20.00. The auto parts stores have charts that will guide you in helping you choose which lug nuts to use. |

did the chrome plating fall off after the first winter? I bought some once for another car and they looked like hell after a winter. |

I always lose at least one or two after having my jeep serviced It's so annoying. I'm glad to hear there are some at the auto parts store that I can replace the lug caps with |

The reason you lose them after a service is b/c they use impacts to tighten them. They usually will over tighten them. I use an impact to take them off but to not torque them back down with it. Ill snug them up with the impact then do it by hand. Much better way to do it. You can get lugs from quadratec I believe. edit: HERE |

are there any solid ones that take the 3/4 or 19 mm wrench, that why it keeps everything the same so i don't have to carry a tire iron everyday, not such a big deal when i have tools with me, but sometimes you only have the crap under the seat and that isn't going to work with the bigger style, and not sure if my wheels will work with the larger nut. |

mine are broken, i dont' think anyone in this area knows what a torque stick is. all that have broken so far have been corroded in between the stamped cap and the actual nut. |

Have fun trying to get those busted lugs off after the cap comes off. The dealer ship cranked 'em down with the impact so it was super hard to get that little lug off even with a smaller socket pounded on with a hammer. Needless to say I wont go back to that place except for warranty work! |

THey work just fine after the cap comes off they are 18 mm instead of 19, and they come right off, i usually always use a torque wrench of a torque stick, but the lugs were pretty beat when i bought my liberty. |

70K on mine (today!) and I've only lost like 2 of them (the chrome caps that is). Usually, if you stop in at a dlr, the parts guy will just toss you a handful of them if you tell him they popped off. I had one parts guy tell me to order the ones on the (I believe it was) GM trucks. They are supposedly solid, not capped, and cheap. Plus with OEM, the chrome will prob last better than cheap aftermarket ones. |

I just put on a set of McGard Tough Nuts (part #64000) over the weekend. They seem really solid and the chrome is guaranteed not to chip or peel. They're a little taller than the factory nuts, but this is what McGard recommends for all Jeeps with 5-lug wheels . I paid about $40 for 20 at Pep Boys. Now I need to find a 13/16" tire iron because the factory jack's lug wrench is too small for the McGards.

Buy yourself a 3' Breaker Bar (cheap at Sears) and a 13/16" socket. Keep the thing assembled and tucked under the piece of carpeting that velcroes to the back bottom of the rear seats (where they fold forward). Gives you more leverage, tucked out of the way, and u always have the proper size AND a breaker bar handy. I've used the same one in the last 3 vehicles and it's paid for itself not just on my car but on other people's when the lugs are too tight to break free with a standard jack handle (usually due to using an impact to put them on). |
