Post subject:  Nth KJ Lift???

So **if** there was to be a Nth/ All J offered long arm/ SFA kit, how many serious buyers would buy a $3500 to $4000 kit for the KJ? You would supply your own front axle and steering box, drive shafts, exhaust, etc. The suspension would be similar to Nth's current TJ long arm kits. A little birdy told me there could be a chance of a kit, but there would need to be at least 10 to 15 kits to consider the rather costly CAD design, engineering, tooling and set up. There would be KJ specific subframes and brackets. It would look a lot like Wally's SFA rig, but the R&D and tool up won't be worth it for 2 or 3 kits. The estimated cost if you built it yourself with the kit could run into the $7000 range depending on the axle cost. Keep in mind that a Wrangler built in this manner would run about the same money. Then factor in wheels, tires, lockers, etc. you could still see a $9000 to $10,000 dollar KJ upgrade. So what kind of response is there actully if we push this forward? Be serious, Nth might help All J do this, and All J may consider doing it, but only if we are going to really sell the kits. This could be a lot of money sitting in inventory for us and Nth if we build and they don't sell.

Also keep in mind...... Drawtite/Reese/Hidden Hitch dropped the KJ front hitch due to lack of sales, All J couldn't get 10 serious buyers for the front bumper way back when, Randy's has yet to sell but 2 KJ rear axle kits(they were considering building front end parts if the rears sold.)

Or on the other side of the coin, what if there was a 4.5" lift for the IFS rigs that would lift and take care of the steering and lower the diff? This kit would likely run into the $2000 or so range, but would retain the front diff. Any takers there?

Hope to get some serious responses. BTW, helloooooo from Big Bear. We are finnally getting settled in.

What is Randy's rear axle kit?

Thanks, Dave

I would be more interested in the 4.5" IFS lift I would love to run some 33s and the front diff will more than hold up to it I think with the collar on it and a nice easy foot. SO yes I would be a serious inquiry for the IFS lift. I am not down to throw out 7k for a lift for my KJ. As I am sure 97% of others on this site.

Heather I am going to be honest with you. I WANT my rig to have a solid front axle. I would almost give away middle toe to get one. Now with that being said I have 3 years of payments to go before I can sink that kind of money into my KJ. I myself have a couple of KJ friendly fab shops that associate with my jeep club. I have offered it for a parts mule unless it's a SFA then it would have to wait till I got it paid off. But for 3500 tops you should get all the brackets, tabs, mounts, etc. And a good set of instructions. If this is a viable option 3 years from this June, I would jump on it. I have talked my fiancee into driving it so that I can get a trail rig/DD so that it wont be worn out from wheeling by the time it's paid off. Unfortionatly that's not the case right now but I'm sure there would be some that would be interested.

Any SFA "kit" is going to be way out of range for 98% of everyone hear. One day mine will have one as soon as I win the lottery(I want to build it right).I would like to see a 4"-5" IFS kit,I wouldn't run any bigger of a tire that I run right now(265/76R 16's) just want more articulation.I believe the front case will live better/longer if you can keep all 4 wheels on the ground. So my vote is for a long travel IFS kit,If they build it I'll buy it.$2000.00 for it,do they take visa or will a cashiers check be better?I've got the money if they make the lift.

Typical KJ crowd. Everybody wants something until its time to put your money where your mouth is. 97%?? 98%?? How about 99%? There are 1642 votes on Nths site. Even 99% would be more than Heather is asking for and I bet you still dont even see that.

I agree about the lift. $7k is a LOT of money and most of us use the liberty as a daily driver as well as our trail ride. I'd SSSSSeriously consider a $2,000 4"+ lift for the IFS that would enable me to run 33"s.

A Liberty needs just a weee bit more than you can currently get. A safe way to get 4" that could be stretched a little bit for a 5th or 6th inch would be super. But as it stands now, 3" is dangerous to the CVs.

The rear is a piece of cake. All you need are some longer arms, trilink and driveshaft, all of which are not difficult to fab. The only issues is the damned CV angle and a-arms of the front half.

Find a way to drop the front 3" lower like Al did, except without the major cutting he had to do, and you will sell a good amount of kits.

Me personally 4-5 inch ifs lift for now but I would love to get a sfa system down the road

I would be very interested in a $2000 4+" lift if it was bolt-on - no welding / major cutting required. If I had to get into cutting / welding, I'd have to pay somebody to do it, which would drive the final cost up beyound my current means.

As I said in the other post about Nth:

IFS Lift at about 4" so I can get 33's on.

I'm not sure I would be willing to spend $7,000. Maybe $3,000 or $4,000.

I also think it could be done for less (trust me, I'm no engineer) if you didn't go all out. I just picked up the front axle, steering components, and suspension components out of an XJ for $100. I've heard that the front ends from an XJ will easily hold up to 35" tires, and I'd only like to run 33" tires.

I doubt anyone here would HONESTLY want to run more than 35" tires, so as I said before, I think money could be saved in certain areas.

A 4"-5" IFS lift that deals with the front diff and the steering for about $2K is exactly what I've been looking for. Here comes the honest part: I won't be in the market realistically until I return from a deployment in about 18-24 months.

I no longer have my KJ but I would still like to give my opinion. I think if there is going to be any serious consideration for a new KJ lift, it should be the 4"IFS lift for around 2k. I believe you would sell more kits of this nature than the SFA idea. Then the profits that could be generated from such a lift could then be used for the R&D of the SFA project. Then you wouldn't need as much out of pocket capital invested to actually bring an SFA kit to market. That would be a win-win situation for both interested parties.

That is an excellent idea. In the end, I would like a SFA rig but spending $2k for a lift enabling 33's would be more realistic for alot of people. I would even go to $3k if there is a mod for the diff as well.

I say give a year or two, and they'll have those numbers. There a lot of KJs (at least 800,000 in the US) and more and more people will be offroad with their Libs in years to come, and the market will expand. People will still be buying 2.5" lifts, but some of us who already have a year or two with our 2.5" lifts on our early model KJs will be waiting to upgrade to something bigger.
Let's just say this: If the Rockkrawler 7-Up lift were trail-worthy, I would have saved up for it already, and I would probably have had it on my Lib by this summer.
We all know that there's always a lot of complaining about a lack of a good lift, and then there's the complaint that we all just whine and too few of us are willing to put our money where our mouth is. But believe this, if a larger trail-worthy IFS kit came out for the Lib (with a testimony to prove it's worthiness), you'd have more buyers than people on this board willing to confirm that they'd buy it immediately if it were to come out. That's simply because there's just so many more KJ owners out there than those of us on this board, and we'll never know exactly how many would be willing to buy a nice IFS kit. It'd think quite a few will in a year or two, if a lift EVER comes out. Will a company ever take the risk? I hope they do, and if they don't, I just pray to God that it's not cause they only considered those of us on this board as their market. I'd consider that a HUGE mistake.

Well said. Couldnt agree with you more.

We on this board are SUCH a minority of the representation of the actual owners. Look at us couple of guys from Australia on here - there's what - 4 ?

I'd be happier buying a real kick booty IFS kit than a SFA truth be known.

Here's a reminder of why IFS is so good, and why we should probably try and work with it !!
