Anybody know what those black cup-like things are for? To keep water out of the channels perhaps?

I almost forgot to re-install them when I put my hitch on. I believe they are actually the "bumper" or the first thing to absorb impact in a low speed collision.

I believe that they are called crush cans if I remember right from my front hitch instruction that is what they called them.
