So, it snowed 2 or 3 inches here today, and I ran up to the local supermarket to get some stuff for Chili. When I got home, I noticed that the inside of my front wheelwells were COVERED in snow that had slung off the tires. There was also a big chunk of stuff collecting on the rockers underneath each of the front doors. Every time I hit a bump in the road or turn the steering wheel more than a quarter turn I can hear it scraping against the ice. Does this happen to anyone else? My question is; do I have to worry about hitting a bump and the tire ramming into the ice stuck on the plastic fender and the fender popping off or knocking the fender around otherwise? I might just take a machete to the ice when I go out to start the car in the morning. |

It happens in just about every wheeled vehicle ever created. It's not a problem, the slushpack just falls off once it gets too heavy. You should actually be able to knock it off with your foot when you kick the snow/ice/mess off your feet when you get in (if you do that). I just kick my feet off when I get in; lift right leg, knock foot against rock rail to remove crud from foot; step in, kick off left foot on the way in. Whenever I do that the crud just falls off the rockers and wheelwells. To sum it up: it's nothing to worry about, and it will come off on its own, or with a TINY bit of goading. The rocker panels are much more securely mounted than the ice is. |

You left out the slush that gets packed into the door handles. Don't worry about the crud hanging from the rockers, you will knock that off with the back of your pant leg as soon as you step out. BTW, splash guards do wonders for this problem. |

I'm really not worried about the rockers, I just don't want to pop off a fender. The slush seems REALLY hard (stabbed it a few times with a pocket knife). |

nah you should be good, ill do the same sometimes and just kick it around or knock on the top of my fenders to get it loose...wait until you get new rims...you'll start getting the same thing on your door handles and side view mirrors. |

First snow since I got the Jeep... S-10 never got driven in the snow. And no, not a lot of snow... it's central VA, for crying out loud... We do own a condo. in Winter Park, CO. though... but the snow is so dry there that it never really sticks to much of anything. Thanks for the help, though. |

I just got home, parked in the garage, kicked the snow buildup on my fender well-sliders and swept them out the garage. I-25 is pretty bad along with all of the roads. Drove in Part time while going straight and moved to Full time when coming to turns. Chain restrictions for the 18-wheelers on the interstate. Definitely around 8" today. That puts us at about 50" since the Blizzard just before Christmas. |

What is really fun is the FWD vehicles that get that thick slush built up all the way around the tire to the point of almost limiting suspension travel. Fun stuff driving around in the snow. |
