Post subject:  Windshield replacement

I'm calling around to get estimates on replacing windshield.

My dealer doesn't do it, they farm out to Banner Glass (regional DC metro area company). Their website mentions OEM quality glass/adhesive PPG glass but no other details.

My insurance company recommends Safelite, which is a bigger national company looks like. They claim OEM style reproduction glass but admit it's not the same as factory glass. However, they say their glass should mimic the shade and dot-matrix pattern on the windshield.

Basically, my question is, what is the best place to go to get the best windshield replacement? If I can't get the exact same as factory, I want the one that closest resembles the factory OEM windshield.

I know lots of people on this forum have had windshields replaced. Keep in mind it has to be a place that operates in DC area please.

-------------

Actually, just called Banner and they claim to use Mopar glass. So that sounds great, except they charge $280 vs Safelite charges $228, minus my $60 credit I had paid them to fix a crack, comes out to $165. Since that crack spread across the windshield after our first wintry precip they credit that towards replacement because their original fix didn't last and it was guaranteed not to spread.

Now the question is, does anyone have experience with either place? I'd rather go Mopar, but that's a huge savings of $115 if I go Safelite brand.

Thanks.

I have replaced my windshield twice already in three years. I would go the cheapest route. Many KJ owners here replace their windshield wuite frequently, some almost yearly. I think the upright angle of the windshield has something to do with it. That or we are all unlucky.

Save that cash for another windshield, as it is almost the cost of a brand new one.

...and oh yeah, I have tried both mopar, and ppg, and all are of the same quality in my opinion. Perhaps what is more important is the skill/warranty of the labour (leaks, sloppy adhesive application, etc...)

Mopar uses ppg glass. They also use PPG paint.

3 years and Ive never had a problem. Living in eastern Ky(tons of Coal Trucks), I believe ive been fairly lucky. :)
