i keep getting #6 misfire codes and now my CEL is on and of course it is #6 i have a feeeling this is why my kj doesnt like to fire right up and spits and sputters when i try to start it after driving for a bit and then shutting it down for a bit.

i mean it makes my kj look like a hunk of poopy when i go somewhere. maybe i could wipe the contacts clean with some peanut butter????? but seriously WTF is going on? changed the plugs less the 1000 miles ago

How many miles are on the kj? Seems that this code pops up when the Jeep is getting alot of miles on it and a valve spring lets go.

Have you tried switching the coils to see if the code changes?

Should be hearing some ticking noise at best with valve spring problem. But swithing coil is a pretty good test for the COP(coil on plug) theory. If that don't pan out, ohm out injectors and compare readings to all be close to one another, somewhere around 12ohms give or take a couple of points.

When you checked your plugs, did they have any red liquid on them? If so, you've problably blown your head gasket like I did.

when i changed them they looked normal. it drives fine and revs fine just doesnt like to start up. if i crank it and stop then crank again it will fire right up usually.

someone posted about a frayed wire somewhere, wonder if i have some kind of wiring problem??

I had a similar starting problem with a Toyota Cressida with 150k miles on it. It turned out to be a bad starter. I don't think that would explain the other problems though. Try swapping coils to see if that's the problem. I would check all the plugs again to see if there is any change. One could be fowled or just DOA. It could be a problem in your heads too. May have a bad spring or some of the valves could be sticking.

yeah ill have to do that. i thought i narrowed it down to sunoco's gas with the 10% ethanol in it. but now it does it anywhere i fill up. i threw some HEET drygas in it last fill up just to be safe since it was 0* here on thursday. so ill have to discon. my batt. to reset the 'puter since the chick at autozone didnt erase the code.

and switch the #6 to #3 plug

the cylinder order is what? left side 123 right side 456 from front to back??? or back to front?? sorry im a ford man :?

1 4
2 5
3 6

or is it differant then a v8

The firing order is 165432.....Cyls. 1 3 5 Drivers side and Cyls. 2 4 6 Pas. side front to rear of engine. Another thing I've heard ODogg is if you can find a standard plug instead of platinum they'll give you faster start up.

hmm could be but not so in my case i used autolite coppers. ok so if i move 6 to 1 and it reads 1 next time it'll be easier to fix for good and ill know it is the COP that is bad if not then there is something wrong with the #6 to begin with

but i may just put it at #5 to make jeep work harder to change it out since it is under warrenty for awhile yet. just looking for a way toi fix it before callin jeep. but heck the chrysler dealer down the road just went to a chrysler jeep dealership. and i know the mech's

thanks for the help so far guys

well i didnt swap coil packs yet but good news is i can get em from work for $13 each brand new list for $35 i think and the new laser platinum plugs i can get for $7.95 each they list for $12 maybe ill give em a shot or the iridiums dunno.

as soon as i swap out the #6 coil pack i may do the plugs shortly after or same day. heck i might just order a new coil pack and go from there. for the price it is cheaper then the deductible.

ok i swapped the #6 to the #1 and it wouldnt start i swapped #1 to #3 it would start but i had to keep on the gas now it does either or will run fine or need to give it some gas.

i pulled the #6 plug and looked at it there was oil and gas at the base of the thread near the crush washer/bolt head. the plug looked normal not fouled or off color looked exactly like the rest of em cept the wet residue around the washer area.

so now what am i to do

Possible cracked case on the plug, cracked manifold, stripped threads in the head,or cracked head at the #6 plug area would be my guesses for having gas/oil at the threads of the plug. Are you swaping just the plugs?or the coil pack?

coil pack, like the threads themselves wernt all covered just the part where the washer is at the rest of it was clean

From here you need to find the source of oil leak.Oil is an excelent conducter and is probably carring the spark from wire or boot straight to ground, hence creating the missfire.Valve cover gasket?
