| Post subject: | Rock Rails installation question |
I bought a set of used Mopar rock rails on ebay for my 05 Liberty. They're in perfect condition, and all the bolt holes line up fine. However the bolt locations on my Liberty are just hexagon shaped holes. It looks like I need inserts or something that will accept the bolts. Anybody have experience with this, and if I do need inserts, where can I purchase them? |

Be advised if you do any wheelin' the factory rails are not near as nice as the aftermarket items or the factory rails on the new Wrangler. You'll soon bend the bejeesus out of them wheelin'. |

Although this is true, I sold my OEM ones to JasonK to get some skink sliders and I've seen both in action. The skinks are hands down 10x the rock rails that the OEMs are; however, if you don't slam down hard on them, they will do for moderate wheeling with a long life. (now if you're going hard core wheeling or spending $250 to $300 anyways it's a no brainer - return the OEMs and get RL or BB sliders) |

How many people on here have succesfully made their own sliders? I have seen pictures of them and it looks like a piece of piss to make them. I have a plasma torch and a welder at my disposal.... haven't owned my libby long enough to look at how they mount, but I owuld have figured that if they were simple to make that people would be saving the $250-$300 that they cost and bang them out for maybe a hundred bucks material cost:?: Just my $.02 When I make mine, if they are simple, I will make more sets if it's practical, just curious why everyone is buying them tho. -Mark |

I think to acurately make a set of rock rails you will also need a large cutting saw (preferably one that has liquid cooling) A welder and soild welding skills A drill press and of course a stockpile of 2" square tubing laying around.... The hardest part will be the offset length on the main mounting arms - but I imagine that a crafty person could think of a few ways to make everything fit nice and neat. |

Great thread, but I'm going to have to stop getting this all off track.... I'm lucky enough to have a horizontal band saw and mill, and drill press at my disposal.... Check out the fabrication forum for anyone else interested in making their own. -Mark |
