Alright, I am happy. We have finally gotten our winter. I've been driving my libby in the snow, and I am happy. I used the 4 lo up a icy hill coming out of a loading dock and have used 4 hi a lot on the freeway. Definently happy with my libby. Just wanted to gloat a little -Mark |

-Mark I was under the impression that it's not a good thing to run the 4WD at highway speed??? Can someone clarify? |

well, you can shift into 4hi up to 55mph, so do 50-65 in 4hi is probably not a problem. Mind that this is 4hi and not the auto-tranny's 4wd feature I am talking about. I have done highway speeds a couple of times in 4hi going through and up to Reno in the snow without issue, but I know someone is going to mention the whole idea behind needing 4hi and slippery roads, and yes, going slow is probably not a bad idea, but going faster is not necessarily dangerous. 4-hi at any speed is OK. Issue is that, with the "part-time 4wd", you might get some tire chirp from driveline back-up if the roads aren't at least wet. If you have the 242 transfer with "Full-Time 4wd" you will have no problems at all. 4-lo at highway speeds, assuming you can get that fast, is bad. |

Glad to hear about the snow fall... Everytime the weather guy say's we're getting another couple inches, the storm will break up mid state and never reach metro Detroit. I think that if you got any vehicle up to highways speeds in 4-lo the TC would probably explode! |

I've taken it up to around 60 mph in 4hi. My step dad has and 89 cherokee and he's said that he's had in 4 hi (happened quite a bit) from his cabin to the main road (20 miles) and forgot and went all the way to Billings, MT (25 miles) and drove the speed limit (60 mph) many times and had no problems it was only when he got into town and tried to turn and wen't, "Oops" and shifted back to 2. |

i live in western PA and finally got some snow too!!! i love the liberty.. im very suprised how well it does in the snow. very very impressed.... not to mention we have a 1/4 miles uphill driveway... i've been running part time 4 wheel for almost the last week without taking it out... nothing but good news so far.. it seems to like it much more than 2 wheel..
(not my driveway.. but it is a nice snowy road!) |

Stephen auto or manual shift dont have squat to do with the T-case and how fast you can drive in either 4wd mode has more to do with the front and rear being locked togeather with out "full time mode" |

Exceed 25 and it probably will......ouch! I only use 1 or 2 in Lo....and I've used 4WD Hi this week everyday and get up to speeds of 55-60 and its been fine. At those speeds you can hear the T-case howling a bit but other than that its all good. I only get a vibration from all the ice/snow/slush that builds up in my wheels...and it drives me crazy!! The only reason I use 4WD Hi is at times when it wants to pull to one side in 2WD on ice (wheel that is slipping)....which I'm sure many of you have experienced. I'm VERY happy with my libby in the snow/ice. It's done REAL good..even without ABS! |

We haven't had nearly enough snow for me to put my Liberty into 4-hi on a main road... But I am sure once March or April rolls around, it'll snow just enough. Either that or I am headed to the nearest 2 track to try out my new tires! I do use the Full-Time a lot though. I've got this same picture posted in the "pics" section but it's worthy of this thread (taken a week ago)

At least you get something to turn to brown slush |

But at least it's cold in the northeast part of the U.S.A.! I mean in December the temps never dropped below freezeing. Now this weekend, early next week it's going to get bitter cold. Time to break out the long johns. |

Woo Hoo, Lake Effect in effect until tomorrow morning.... I have to say that it's fun pulling into my driveway with over a foot of snow in it, switching into 4 high just before the turn (want to get out of the street) and blazing thru the drifts. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but she loves it. This is what I was hoping for when I purchased my libby. I even got to use the 4 Lo on a steep icy hill at the Mountain Bike Park (www.raysmtb.com) This is great! Anyways the only other thing I have to add is that this is the first american made vehicle I have ever owned, and I am pretty happy about that as well. (Especially as my company is bidding rebuilding some CNC lathes in a company that makes parts for Dana) The point is that this is the first vehicle that I have ever owned that takes an entire jug of washer fluid. Is that a coencidence or just for Jeep? -Mark |

Trust me, the kind of stuff Donkeykong has been driving through, using 4 hi won't hurt anything. |

You must be on the east side, Geauga County? I bailed out of Cleveland by 4pm to miss most of this. Have to be back @ 530am so my guess is it will be a wild ride in the morning. |

Glad I am in Toledo and dont have that great LAKE EFFECT snow that the East side of Cleveland and up towards Erie, Pa gets. I got enough while we lived on the lake in Port Clinton and still wasnt as bad as you all get over there! Now if we get some here I will be the first out playing in it but if it doesnt get any deeper than one or two inches thats OK in my book! |

If it's not measured in feet, then don't count on it sticking. One of my largest motivations to get the 4x4 jeep has been the snow... I've had minor problems in my FWD cars in the past, but when it comes down to it, it's just no fun with only 2 wheels pulling.... RFCRD wrote: You must be on the east side, Geauga County? I'm actually still in cuyahoga county. Between Mayfield and Wilson Mills off of 271... I was going to go to clevo to go MTB riding last night, but the news made the snow sound worse than it was....looking out the window it doesn't look too bad this morning. -Mark |
