Well we are finally getting a bit of snow!! Today while driving around in the country scoping the future site of our house, we came across a young girl that put her pontiac sunfire in the ditch (it was white-out conditions on the roads at the time). The ditch was actually pretty full with snow from the plow already going by, so she was pretty "stuffed". There were a few kids around trying to yank her out with their car, but getting nowhere at all. I asked them if I could give a try helping, and they were happy for the offer. Pulled out the tow strap, pulled up behind her, threw it in 4 lo and reverse, and pulled her out with little more than a tap of the gas pedal. The kids were totally amazed at how easily we got her out. They had been trying to get her out for over an hour, the good ol' Libby got te job done in one quick tug and pull. part time 4wd really is awesome for traction, even on snow covered roads. I'm always surprised at how good of a job the Libby does pullin. |

Just curious for when (if) I come across the same scene, what did you loop that tow strap around on the Pontiac so as not to rip out any bits? |

Most small cars like that will have some sort of a tow point under the front or rear bumper. Our Corolla has them front and rear. You CANNOT jerk really hard though.. It will tare the entire bumper off. |

If I was in the same situation, I would ask the Pontiac owner to put the tow strap on thier own vehicle.. let them pick where they want it, that way they can't blame you if something breaks off... just my 2-cents |

I let the guy that was with her take care of attaching the strap to the sunfire. I didnt want to crawl under the car in deep snow - wasnt dressed for that. I had visions of that video where the bumper gets ripped off, so I made a point of warning not to hookup there. I think he just looped it through the rear drivers side lca. |

-Mark Yeah honestly I just let it idle/crawl in 4lo reverse to take up the slack, and as everything tightened and the Libby started to slow, I just tapped the gas and the rearend of that sunfire popped right out. Then about another 10 feet with just gentle gas to get her completely out |

Nice, people don't seem to grumble at all when KJ comes to the rescue. I pulled an F250 duelly and twin snowmobile trailor out of a snow bank in Revo last year. At first he was skeptical, but the KJ just plucked him right out. I love the look on peoples' faces that says " a Liberty did that?" Keep the roads safe. Stephen |

I love pulling people out. This season, more than ever I make sure I have a camera in the car. After the rescue, as repayment I ask them to stand next to their vehicle and hang their head in shame and I'll take a picture of it. Kinda my trophy room heeheehee. I don't carry a strap for rescues though, I use 3/4inch dynamic line, that way there's enough stretch in the line so I don't break anything on the rescuee's vehicle, plus it's easier to tie off on something that has tow loops instead of hooks (ala Corolla or civic). |

I have helped 2 people out so far this winter. Just hope someone hepls me if i need it some day. I have a tow strap with hooks on the end, makes it easy to pull someone out no matter what they have to hook up to. And i let them attach the strap...just in case. Most cars have some sort of recovery mount on them, like they were designed to get stuck |
