Post subject:  Mag Light w/LED....

Just bought the new LED conversion bulb for the Mag. Man, is this thing bright! Even with my 1/2 dead batteries it's brighter than it was with a brand new set and the standard bulb. Got it at Sears for $20. Pricey but the one time I'm stuck someplace or helpin someone else it'll be worth it.

Just be wary if you go to buy one. It comes in 2 different part numbers. One is for 2 cell C or D Mags and the other is for the 3 cell C or D Mag. My Sears had them mixed on the same peg board hook and seemed to be unaware they were 2 different SKUs.

The LED is rated at 3 watts, it comes in 2, 3 and 4 cell versions, a mini mag is also out with a 3 watt LED in 2 and 3 AA sizes. Very bright for the size.

I've been wanting to get a LED conversion for my 4 cell light I carry around in the Jeep. I suppose I've just been lazy about getting to the store to buy it.

When you say conversion, is it more than just the bulb?

I picked up an LED bulb from MAG for my 4-cell D at Lowes for like $4.

Brighter than hell.

I have a mini-mag (takes 2 AA) and I bought the conversion LED for it and it is much much brighter. I was impressed. I think it was $8.95 or so. When I looked at the one for the 3D cell Mag though it was $18.95 so I didn't get it yet but I plan to when I get around to it.

LED is definately the way to go. I keep a 2 AA Mini Mag LED on me when I'm caving just in case I ever need work on my helmet light. It's 8 LED's that run off 4 C batteries in the belt pack. Actually can give me usable light for over a week. Makes me think we need to see LED's in headlights and especially off road lights. Much brighter and efficient. Anyone making them yet?

This package is confusing me...it says upgrades any 2 Cell C or D MAG Lite...but then in huge letters it says 4 Cell C or D...which is it, or is it good for both???

Hmmmm.... That is wierd. Lemme run and get my package.

From the Maglite site:
Quote:
The Maglite® LED Upgrade Modules are available for all 2, 3, & 4 Cell C & D size Maglite® flashlights. The kits are cell number/size specific i.e. 2 Cell, 3 Cell, 4 Cell and must be matched to a 2, 3, or 4 Cell Maglite® flashlight. Unlike “LED retrofits” that are not made or approved by Mag, these Upgrade Modules were engineered by Mag and are factory-authorized. Their use cannot adversely impact coverage under the Maglite® flashlight Limited Lifetime Warranty.

I got a feeling that the basic packaging is used for all the upgrades but they have the printer change the larger section (Large white letters) to be specific to that upgrade. I'll bet someone in typesetting (or whatever they call it now) didn't realize that the little bit under the orange letters that's in black ink says "Upgrades any 2 cell........" and just went ahead and changed only the huge letters on the different packages. I shopped around diff sites and it looks like this is actually the case. No matter 2, 3, or 4 cell package, the all have that little sentance that says "..... any 2 cell...." Maybe after they get a bunch of exploded 2 & 3 cell ones that people put into 4 cell Mags, they'll fix the typo!

Update: Just checked my packaging and it says "3 cell" in both places, in 3 languages. Maybe that was the first "Let's rush the new product to market before someone beats us to it" packaging.

Be sure to get the correct one so you don't blow it up! Check the actual base of the "bulb" to be sure it has the correct # stamped on it when u purchase it.

As you can see, the part # is directly related to the # of cells it fits. 32 is 2 cell, 33 is 3 cell & 34 is 4 cell.
