Post subject:  Individual Tire Pressure Mod

I have been searching for weeks and cannot find how these guys are doing it. I have seen dozens of posts where a Libby was modded to show individual tire pressure for each tire on the mini console up top. Simple code flash, sensor upgrade?? Can someone please help me locate info on doing this mod?

Thanks much!

Are you sure they are modding them to do that. There is a factory option that does that ($75 upgrade Tire Presure Monitorying Display.. i think). It was the only option that I wanted on my 2005 that it didn't have. I have been trying to find a way to do this since I bought it. Usually when I ask a dealer about it they tell me it has to be added at the factory and cant be added later. Which has always seemed a bit odd to me. A few days ago I asked a different dealer, he said it could be done but didn't know the price.. he guessed $500-$800 and said they have never done it. Altho, I am not sure he really knew what he was talking about either, it kinda felt like I was leading him to answers. He said it requires a completely different EVIC and possibly different pickup sensors. My 2005 came with the standard version (just tells if you have a tire low, it doesnt however tell you which one) so I already have the sensors in the tires, not sure if those need to be different also. Hopefully someone here knows a way to do it.

I didnt think about asking the Dealer. Couldnt hurt to ask, may jsut be a frustrating call like yours though. I usually dont think about asking the "Dealer" since they always try to rape you or tell you some story that you'll believe so you will go away or shutup and spend more money.

Mine came with that from the factory.

You would need to swap out the evics so that it would support that and install sensors in each rim.

I have the sensors in each rim, actually one in the spare as well. Below zero the other day and it warned about spare tire low pressure. Discount Tire says I need some special attachment when choosing a new set of wheels to accomodate my existing sensors. Actually the sensors I have look exactly like those on my Jeep Grand Overland and it has individual readings. Maybe I just need to upgrade the EVIC, or I guess it would need to be a replacement to the nicer model?

Thanks for your replies..

That's really bizarre that you have the sensors, and the EVIC warns you, but you can't get the diagram.

I know is probably going to be insulting, and I'm sorry, but you DID press the STEP button a bunch of times to cycle through what the EVIC shows you, right?

No, that's standard. on 2005+ models, they ALL come with the tire pressure monitoring stems and display. It will tell you that a tire (or spare) is low, but it won't tell you what the pressures actually are. The $75 option is a different version of the EVIC that will read and display the tire pressures (in addition to just telling you when they are low)

In hindsight, I wish I had ordered the TPM option. I didn't want it because I figured I'd eventually end up with an annoying dashboard light thanks to an incompatible tire or rim. Little did I know that even without the $75 option, I'd still have an annoying dashboard light and dinging noise.

I have an 06 CRD Sport with the evic as an option. It has no tire pressure monitoring at all...rubber valve stems, no tire pressure screen on the evic.

My '05 did not have the system, and had the rubber valve stems. I bought an '04 EVIC to install, and when it showed up it had the TPMS system, and I got tire pressure warnings until I bought and installed the wheel sensors. You just need to make sure you get the same year sensors as your EVIC...and unless you're installing the whole system with the trip sensors, your dash light will not work and you will need a magnet to train the system with the wheel locations.

It's there, trust me. There's no screen for it, but it will ding if the pressure is off. Put the pressure on the tires down under 20psi, and you'll see "TIRE PRESSURE LOW" come up on the overhead, and a strange orange icon on the dash, accompanied by a dinging noise.

I think it only looks to see if any tire is below a certain threshold pressure or if any individual tire is a certain number of PSI off from another. It takes it quite awhile to notice it (maybe 10-20 minutes of driving)

I will drop the pressure in the spare when I get a chance and see what happens.

I can tell you that first thing when I put in my key before starting it that morning when it was below zero imediately my spare tire pressure warning came on and would not go away for me to check the temp outside, anywarning that appears on that top screen related to open door or something stays there until it is resolved. Once when I was going down the road it came on for about an hour of driving and went off again once the temp outside is warmed up to raise the pressure enough so that it is back closer to 30 instead of 25.

So do you think I can replace my EVIC and use my existing sensors once I do the magnet thing I have heard about? I can tell you the sensors I have on the libby are the exact same length and width as those on my Overland. I took a look at them the other day when I was getting new tires. I would guess they could very well be the same part number, but I couldnt see any numbers on either one.

In talking with a couple of dealers they say that there are 2 part numbers in the computer for the overhead console. One is $362 and the other $562, the problem is they both have completely different wiring mechanisms even though they are both for an 05 Liberty Limited CRD. It sounds to me like these 2 units are much more different than just the tire pressure monitoring bit. I bet you that one of these doesnt even belong on a CRD, not that the overhead console is that much diff on a gasser. One guy said that if I could give him a VIN number from one that just has the warning system and a VIN that has the individual tire pressure then he could look through the computer and compare each one and find out all the different parts on them hoping to narrow down which part or parts I need to make this feature work. The only problem with that suggestion is both vehicles must be within a couple of months build of each other!

Surely there is an easier way, like maybe even a 3rd party computer hack or something with a magnet calibration on each wheel.

Post subject:  Re: tire monitors

Here is a quote from (Does anyone know if this WJ model will work in the Liberty?):

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The Tire Pressure Monitor System is a safety and convenience feature that was introduced at the start of the 2002 model year. It was offered as an option on all WJ models except the Laredo Sport. Each of the vehicle's wheels have a valve stem with a pressure sensor and radio transmitter built in. Signals from the tire pressure sensors are received and interpreted by the EVIC. A sensor in a mounted wheel will broadcast its detected pressure once per minute when the vehicle is moving faster than 25 mph. The spare tire sensor (if equipped) will broadcast once every hour. Each sensor's broadcast is uniquely coded so that the EVIC can determine location.

Found another interesting post quoted below about the TPM no longer relative to the EVIC: http://www.jeepforums.com/forum/archive ... 34032.html

Thread talking about the TPM being a federally required safety feature.
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/rul ... ule.6.html
Effective Date: This final rule is effective April 8, 2005, except for Subpart G of 49 CFR Part 585, which is effective September 1, 2005.

Its not illegal to not have the TPM, you cant turn it off, its part of the wireless control module (or SKREEM module depending on the vehicle) which also controls the transponder in the key and the RKE. Its there to stay, dealers can't disable it and can't reset it. It has to reset on its own when the sensors are in place. The EVIC has nothing to do with the TPM anymore, all it does is display the results.

So that sucks, I guess this would mean that I would have to upgrade the SKREEM and get my keys reprogrammed, and a new EVIC that can display the graph...

Thoughts?

I am in the same situation as you, I have the warning but want the display for 05 there are 2 different evic part numbers listed 56010520AD and 56010527AD with the latter being more expensive and when try to figure out the wiring diagram there seems to be only 2, one is for just the overhead lights and the other is for the evic, unfortunately the fsm does not show the connector with a pin out that I could find

Aparently it is now controlled by the SKREEM the wireless security computer that handles the key fob and other things and it sends the individual PSI signals to the EVIC :( , see my previous post, but this quote may not be a definitive. If you find anything else out please let me know. Thanks

Have a friend who owns a body shop, doing a lot of work for car rental companies, hoping to borrow an evic with the actual display readout and swap with mine to see what happens, not to keep but as a test

Cool, that will be nice to see if the data exists in the current config, hopefully it will display it and all we will have to do is upgrade the evic. Of course the new more expensive Evic is almost $600.

Let us know how it works!
