Yeah I know there are a ton of posts but I am not sure if this is covered. I currently have my antenna set up where my am/fm antenna sits. The only bad thing is that it hits the garage door everytime I go in and out and it goes nuts because of the spring (good thing or it would break) It's a 3 footer. The local CB shop guy said don't go to a two footer because you wont get any reception. Is this true? So I am thinking that if I mounted it to the rear - right of the swing door towards the bottom. That will get my 3 footer in the garage but will reception stink because it's lower? Thanks for your help.

Depends how far out you want to reach out to. If you only want to talk on trails then it will work but for longer distance it will not work as well.
The very best location would be center of your roof so it has a good ground plane in all directions, but of course you cant always do it that way.
Due to getting into garages at home/ parking garages etc. I have two setups that I use depending if I am going on a long trip on the highway ie talking longer distances or running around in the woods , low hanging branches etc. Maybe someone has a good all around system that works well. I havent found what I like yet that serves all purposes. I know thats not much help but it all comes down to a comprimise it seems

Not sure why your antenna is hitting the garage top. I have the medium spring and Wilson Silver 3' antenna and I am not hitting the top of my garage entrance. I have a 2 1/2" lift with the 245/75 MTR's.

Is your garage lower? Do you have the Frankenlift?

The rule of thumb for mounting C.B. antenna is it needs to have at least two thirds of it above the top of the vehicle. I read that somewhere but I can't remember where. I mounted mine like that and I have exceptional performance out of my Galaxy 929.
