Looks like the lower ball joint problems will continue to plague the KJ.
The 08 KJ suspension change will be like the WK's.
Will that leave the older KJ's with lifetime LBJ replacements :?:

I guess I will be looking into Moogs then. I don't understand what's so hard about fixing this problem. DCX should just offer a MOOG type replacement. Even if we had to pay a bit of an 'upgrade' fee.

At least, perhaps it will be under the latest recall. The one to end all recalls. The recall of the recall of the recall.

Since the problem seems to be with the suspension design that affects the lower ball joints, I seriously doubt that the Moogs will be a long term fix.

The Moogs may last longer, and only time will tell, as no one has accumulated very much mileage on their Moog replacements yet.

Lets see how the Moogs hold up when people are getting 20,000 + miles on them before we start calling them a cure for the problem.

It would be nice if DC would offer us an 08 suspension swap as a recall.
OK, so I'm dreaming

At least you'll always beable to get free ball joints from the dealership, say every 2 to 3 years.... (at least when they recall them again for the same problems.) The KJ will always have this problem.

I don't like the idea of having my wife and kids riding around in a vehicle that could have the LBJ's go at any time. If this is a suspension/on going problem, I may have to reconsider my plan of keeping the KJ for the long haul. Free replacements or not, it's not worth the health and welfare of my family to keep a faulty vehicle.

I guess those of us who go to Moog's will be out of luck if it is a suspension problem and not a ball joint problem???

I'd hate to have to replace my LBJ's every few years out of pocket. Maybe Moog's aren't the way to go. I'm set to get mine put in this Friday, maybe I should reconsider? I'm sure DC won't be doing a free recall if you already switched to the Moogs.

tkkj2002 just reported to an older Moog post of mine in the 4X4 section, that he indeed has 20,500 miles on his moogs with no problems, so they do appear to be holding up pretty well.

True, but some have had the POS stock lbj's last for a very long time, so who knows.

I was one of the few still riding around on my original LBJ's up until last October (2006) - so I made it 50K+ miles on them. Mabye that is why my view of the replacements is different, as I'm expecting to make it another 50,000 miles before needing to have re-replacements put in..?

I have 82k on my 02 and I am on my third set of LBJ's

I wonder how may of the redesigned LBJ's have failed so far. This has me reconsidering my long-term commitment to the KJ now. Now that it's paid off, I was hoping to use it at least another 6-7 years, but now, I don't know.... If it's unsafe, it will have to go. Hmm. Now I'm nervous about my trip to the Smokies in April.

That's not right. Maybe I can find a decent used Xterra, because I sure can't afford the Unlimited Rubicon I want. If I sell the KJ, I'll need something to replace it as my daily driver.

I plan on evaluating them at every tire rotating. Hope they don't go bad quicker than 5000 miles between checks.

My ball joints lasted a long time but I don't do a lot of water crossings and it doesn't rain that much here in L.A. I had the original recall done at about 60k but I don't know if they changed them. It looked like they just popped on heat shields and left the ball joints. At 85k I did get the latest recall done. The ball joints weren't real bad but I'm glad that they changed them. They had a 1/8"+ play. I still wish that they were greaseable.

KJ04....I think if you do some searching from when this problem first began you'll come across a post from John (JJsKJ)as he posted a Moog product design change to DCs piece of crap. Moog cals their balljoint "The problem solver". If you find this thread it shows the design change so that everyone can see the difference in the two.Going back to that same post I gave John an address and phone number to DC for replacing the part yourself and get reimbursed by DC.I done my own upgrade to moogs at the shop I work for, made up a bill showing "Paid Cash" sent to DC and will be reimbursed for parts and labor.this is the answer as Moog did change the design. There is an address on your recall letter to send your bill for reimbursment.

It is possible that his joints, and others, where replaced with the remaining invotory of old style balljoints.

Do you really think they just throw that stuff away?
