| Post subject: | Roof Baskets and home garages |
I was thinking of getting a basket on the old girl finally and I got to wondering if I'd have issues parking in the garage. Has anybody added a basket and found they couldn't park in their own garage? I'm not worried about parking garages in the city and what not, just at home. Does anybody have final heights with the different brands of racks on top? I was leaning to the Surco one but I can change my mind if it means less problems. -c |

Mine actually fits in the garage up until halfway in...because the roof is sloped along with my basket the rear part of my basket is higher then the garage by about an inch and a half...but of course it will depend on how tall your garage door is too on whether or not it will truly affect it or not... |

I have the surco rack and clear getting in my garage door by about 3 inches. I can measure for you later to night if you would like how tall my jeep is from graound to top of rack. |

I had the same thoughts, so I measured my garage door and mocked up a rack out of wood on one side to make sure I would have enough room. I got one of the BVG racks thats about 4 inches tall and mounted it a little lower than normal, that way I still have about 2.75/3 inches clearance. cant park in the parking garage at work now, but need the extra exercise anyways |

Another thought, not only how high your rack will be, but also how you mount it. I have seen some of the cross bars that make the rack sit way high, or high to my thinking. That all comes into play also |

A measurement would be great. Did you use the surco rail mounting system or do you use cross bars? I believe my garage opening is a shade under 7 feet. -c |

ccattie, Take into account, many people have lifts and bigger tires. Garage heights also vary quite a bit. If you find out how high your cross rails will sit and then how high the rack will sit above the rails (from the highest point, which will be in the rear) you will know if your KJ can wear it and get out of the cold. |

I cannot get into my garage. I have a 3" lift with a Surco basket. |

I have a Rusty's lift and slightly bigger tires. Measured, the Libby sits 3" higher than stock. I have homemade crossbraces that are about 1" with a Black Widow basket, which is 4.5" It stands about 6'9" or 6'10" and my garage door is 7' so I have 2" of clearance. But every garage door is different so YMMV.

My jeep don't need no stinken garage, it's tough and can weather the elements. It has to cause I know it isn't going to fit ha ha. |

3" lift, 31" tires, Surco rack + KC Day lighters that add even more height and a 7 foot garage door. Fitting? Not even close. |

Haha - I knew you had to be going there. I like the empty driveway and workin on the jeep in the garage especially since my floor is epoxy coated and all. I dont think a lift is in the cards for some time. Once I do, I'll prolly have a fun car that I'll keep in the garage. Kolsey - did you ever do your measurements? -c wendell wrote: My jeep don't need no stinken garage, it's tough and can weather the elements. It has to cause I know it isn't going to fit ha ha.

I have a Rusty's 2.5" lift, 31" tires, home-brew cross bars and a BVG rack. I can barely fit the KJ in my garage... |
