They talked about Chrysler may be for sale on the news. Good old Dr. Z wouldn't rule out dumping Chrysler (Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep) Ford or GM couldn't aford to by Chrysler so they said that keft the French or Chinese if it were to ber sold. Jeep would go full circle with a french connection again. There was a time Jeep used french transmisions, and maybe french diesels in the europe markets.

So a french connection or Chinese connection? Very interesting

I do not believe that will happen...

But if for some crazy reason it did, I would sell my Jeep and buy a Ford. :?

On my Explorer Sport Trac, the engine was assembled in Germany and the tranny was built in France. Was bulletproof for the 5 years that I had it. Personally, I don't care where it's built, as long as it's reliable.

As far as quality, I'd rather see them built by the French than the Chinese.
Chinese quality is not very goot.

I doubt that Chrysler, if ever spun off, would hook up with another company like the current structure between Mercedes Benz / Chrysler. And until it's official, I still don't think that Chrysler will be spun away from DCX.

I guess that rules out both France (socialist) and China

I don't know if I can renig on my post.... being a brit, I answered chinese, but when it comes to one of two french car companies... renault or pugeot taking over Jeep, it's a slap in the face to the americans, but both companies know what they are doing with cars.... pugeot makes the 306 which is a bombproof rallye car:
Image

and renault has been doing extremely well with the F1 racing:

and they were very dominant in rallye as well with the Clio:

My point is that both french companies have the pedigree and expertise to make a very good off road vehicle, but it's a sad day when it takes the french to steer an american icon such as jeep back onto the dirt...
My vote needs to be changed to the french if it's one of the two listed above.

Yep.

Could let the British buy but they have Land Rover. Our Canadian neighbors! They understand the meaning of Jeep. Mexico.....they would buy the old models and we would see brand new Wagoneers, Commanche's, and Willys out again. Nothing wrong with that. Don't let Yugoslavia get ahold of Jeep.

The way you wrote this poll it's the lesser of two evils.

Many concerns are going through my head over this potential sale. Most of all is how the US taxpayers are getting royally screwed after bailing them out 27 years ago. First, by seeing a merger approved by both US and Canadian Govt's into a German company only after getting a promise that a certain percentage of directors remain US or Canadian (a promise that lasted @ 3 yrs). Now, the possibility of selling this again to another foreign entity which will likely be Chineese because they have the cash to make it happen (I wonder where they got the cash??? Duh!). Aren't allowed protect our boarders, can't protect our industrial or job base, can't protect our markets. Time for a revolt.

Rant over.

The only reson the chinnese want it is for the dealer network in this country. Personally, I would love to see ford and chrysler do a merger, look at all the brand that would be under one roof (ford, chrysler, mercury, dodge, lincoln, jeep, land rover, mazda, jag, volvo and austin martin) That would be awesome !!!

I don't think we can learn anything from the French, except how to cook snails. The Chinese are the ones to watch. They are slowly, (and not even slowly anymore) taking over everything they get a hand on. We may all be speaking their tounge one day.
