Guys

Doing some research into the aftermarket and looking for a good 'safari' style roof rack for a 2002 KJ. Ideally I want to replace the factory rails with some heavy duty metal ones as well

Any ideas or suggestions?

I am looking for the exact same type of rack. I have seen one that mounts to the roof with the rails removed but the person on here that has it said they had to have a shop fab up the mounts for it. Something that is already put together would be nice.

my roof rack is holding up well with my Thule car top carrier (i just used u-bolts to mount the cross bars to the siderails) and it has seen one trip to colorado (from eastern MN), trips to canada, duluth-probably close to 10,000 miles of use at freeway speeds with 100-200 pounds of gear. Surco sells a nice rack for $150. My buddy has one on his KJ for the last two years with no complaints except that light mounts cost extra. I fabbed up my own for him in the machine shop I work at.
