Hey all, Newbie here with a few problems with my Frankenlifted 02. My ABS light, brake light and engine light are on again. Stealership told me the first time that an animal ate thru wiring at rear diff(Don't believe it) $200.00. Second time I was told it was right rear speed sensor @$100.00. Any body have any expierience with this? Any way of telling what sensor it could be this time? I am on way to another dealer tomorrow and wondering if I could do it myself. Other problem is in front end I will get to that next time. Thanks in advance Jim |

Went to dealer this AM, Problem with rear diff. sensor. Upon investigating mech showed me where "the splice I put in when I extended it for lift was no good"(it was butt spliced and taped). The look on his face, as well as the service managers when I told them it was done by a dealer who told me an animal had chewed thru it was priceless. He also told me that it was the original sensor and it was still good and he has seen it "often" on libertys. I told him to go ahead and solder the connection. The look on my face must have been priceless when they told me it would be $260.00. I told them nevermind, I will fix myself. They reqouted $210.00. still was going to fix myself until I was told that it would be $95.00 diagnostic fee and that after I fixed it the dash lights would still be on. At least another $95.00 to have them reset. So I settled on $210.00 and left feeling violated but fixed for now. |

Wow, thats awful. Why did they charge you $200 to splice the wires back together(First dealer)? Did they tell you they were changing out the sensor also? |

First dealer told me they put in new pigtail and sensor. I also had overheating isue that they completly botched. I think Iwould have to be on my deathbed before I went back to them. Today was a different dealership that charged me. Seemed honest, just expensive. Jeepjeepster, do you know how to tell if a CV joint is shot? I was just on ride home from work and got real bad front end issue, almost like something is way out of balance. Any thoughts? anybody? |

A bad CV joint will normally roar or click. More so when you turn depending on if its the inner or outer joint. Could also be a bad wheel bearing. Is it a Vibration? If so, then it could just be a wheel out of balance. |

Bearings replaced when I first felt something was wrong up front. That didn't help, but bearings were pretty shot. problem not as bad than(more like a grinding) and very intermitant. E- mailed Al and tried his needle grease gun trick. That didn't seem to make anything better, but a great idea. Recently had a dealer that I was driving by(I drive all over the tristate area for work- not sure what I am going to do tommorrow) look at it and the tech noticed that the front tires wre contacting the upper A-arms and that that was the problem. Once he saw that, I don't think he looked any furthur but he said he thought the CV's were OK. I was and probably still am going to put my stock tires back on tomorrow and rule that out. Until this PM it had turned into more of a wobble and not that bad. Tonights ride home made the problem a lot worse. Roar might be a good word for it. Any knowledge of the JE Reel CV's. I have a bad feeling and if I am going to spend the money I would like to upgrade if poss. Thanks for your help. |

Jeepjeepster, do you know how to tell if a CV joint is shot? I was just on ride home from work and got real bad front end issue, almost like something is way out of balance. Any thoughts? anybody? First off...Welcome to L.O.S.T. jimjeepO....I see this every day as I have worked for an independent shop for about 25 years now.The reason most dealerships charge what they do is from there inability to treat people right. When you treat people right you will have more work than you can keep up with. When you lack work you have to make up things just to make money.Their lack of work has them mistreating what few people they do have.Your best bet from here would be to find a small local shop that cares about fixing your problem and making a reasonable proffit. This is what we do.Where I work we want a good relationship with our customers,or we know they just won't be back.Do yourself a favor and find a good local shop and take them a dozen doughnuts once in a while and sooner or later you'll get respect at fair prices. Amen Lil red Libby, no one should ever go into a stealership, smaller shops are all I have ever used if I have to. Alignments etc only Mine has over 75000 and has never been into a dealership. jimjeepo, when you are out cruising around for work scope out repair shops that have 4 WDs sitting around or at least a couple of trucks so you know that they know what they are doing. I think you have been ....well used enough for one year. You have seen what dealerships do. Good luck, you may not have as much of a problem as you think |

Ron/Tommudd, The shop that did the bearings for me was great, Owner said he was not sure if they were the fix or not, when problem was not fixed he offered to put old ones back in and only charge a minimal amount. I told him to leave them as he warned me it might be something else. He has not done the shafts on a Liberty and seems nervous about doing it. One dealership I went to did not charge me anything to look at it, but their tech thought it was a tire problem. I will know if it is tires or not tommorrow AM and go from there. Thanks for help Jim |
