Who's got the manual tranny?

How long can you go before replacing the clutch?
Forever?

Thats a wide open question, depends on where you drive, how you drive and how good of a driver you are. If a lot of stop and go slipping the clutch etc. thenit would of course not last as long. 2 people could buy the same vehicle the same day and have much different results. Kind of like how long will tires last. I have had Jeeps with over 100,000 miles and the original clutch but then i never use the clutch unless I am stopped and or just taking off.

Lots of people get 100, 150k or more out of OEM Jeep clutches. If you got a lot of miles out of your last clutch in your old truck, I bet you'll get plenty out of your new one.

Yeah - even if you were a horrible driver (which I'm not saying you are) you should be able to hit 100K miles on the clutch. But with some decent skills in applying the pressure plate - you shouldn't have any problem getting over 150K and beyond

"To infinity and Beyond!"

I dunno, I have heard that they are specially designed to wear out at 37K miles so you have to get it replaced right after the warranty is over with an expensive aftermarket one.

Just kidding. I have no idea, but you seem concerned about the manual tranny, are you worried you are going to grenade it with it not shifting "right"?

Unless there is some sort of powershifting involved - let's hope that it doesn't grenade.

That would be a yes !!!
The way I've been driving it I'll be lucky to make it to 20,000 miles.
Is a burning smell good?

Forever is a very long time. I used to get well over 100,000 miles on my stuff, and then typically traded it in so don't know after that. Burning smell is never a good sign, even if you have steaks on the grill. :D

I really hope you are kidding. If you are slipping the clutch that much you should go get a high performance one put in or relearn how to use a hydrolic clutch.

I've always wondered what the best way to use a clutch was, would it be best to let it out faster with more gas or slower with less? I've never owned a stick over 60K so I've never burned a clutch out.

I'm wondering the same thing. I was letting it out pretty fast and jumping and jolting too much. I then started letting it out slower and started to smell a burning clutch. Now I'm back to letting it out pretty fast to avoid any burning smells.

I would rather jerk around a little than burn up the clutch.

This only applies to 1-3rd gears. The rest are easy to let out fast and smooth.

You wanna let it out at the same speed your giving it gas!! One skinny pedal goes In and the other comes out pretty evenly!!!

I dunno, I got used to driving a car with a light weight flywheel and the method I have used ever since has been to blip the throttle as I let the clutch out to where the vehicle is moving and then once I'm rolling I le tthe clutch out the rest of the way and keep going. I am a drummer, so maybe it works for me... the other gears I just try and match the revs and let the clutch out with as little hesitation as possible once I am in gear.
