2003 Liberty.

D(St)ealership wants $378 to replace it (!!)

$101 for the diagnostics.
$175 for the part.
$100 for removal of heavy duty (All J) transmission skid plate.

Holy snikes!!

Time to buy a Chilton Manual.

Anyone ever replace this on their own?

$100 to remove a skid plate??

Isn't it just turning a few screws?

That sounds like a lot of dough for a little oxygen sensor.

They are to easy, unhook wires, unscrew the O2 sensor(need specail O2 sensor socket, can get at any parts store for like $8-$10),put new one in(use alttle antiseize on threads),and hook wires back up.Which one is it? The 2 on the maifolds are a pain to get at but the other 2 are just to easy to pay someone $378 to do.

Post subject:  One more question...

Will replacing the bad sensor "reset" the idiot light on the dashboard (that's currently lit)?

If you clear the error code it resets - if you can't clear the code - it will go away but takes about 6-8 engine cycles - i.e. start drive till it's warm - turn off, and then it'll clear.

at 23,000 miles on the vehicle? - isn't it under warranty?

Had an O2 sensor go bad on me and for some reason the check engine sequence never caught it...ended up killing my catalytic convertors and spark plugs, so the dealer said. Had all plugs, sensors and both cats replaced at 10K miles. Weird stuff if I must say...hope it doesn't happen again...or if it does, while it is still under warranty so I have nothing out of pocket except the keys.

I bought a scanner for 50 dollars and a new sensor for 50 dollars,My bad sensor was after the cat. on the pass. side,It was easy to replace and didn't have to remove anything to get to it.

I had one go bad on my old mazda which ended up causing the cat. converter going bad.

I thought emission components had a longer warranty?

You might want to check your warranty to be sure

but 23K miles on an 03, thats like 4-5K miles/year, i suggest you drive more. :D

Cats count under the special group i found out which is the 8yr/80K mile deal shown here, but then again that is from an 05 manual, not sure if it was different for an 03?

By the way how do you only have 23K miles on an 03?????

I asked the dealership and they said it was not under warranty (at least not when I bought it in 03.)

"By the way how do you only have 23K miles on an 03?????"

I only drive my car to the train station (1 mile each way) during the week. I take it on the beach a lot during the summer and drive mostly on the weekends.

Do you have a transmission skid plate because they (dealer) said they had to remove it to replace the sensor?

I had my tranny replaced this past Christmas in my 03 at 36,842 for which I paid $100 deductible for the 7/70 warranty. But during the test drive the CEL light came on and the code was for a dead O2 sensor. That they replaced for free under the Emisions control package good for the 7/70. You may be out of the 3 years of the 3/36 warranty but your O2 should still be covered since 23K is outageous for a O2 to die.

No I don't have a tranny skid -only the engine and transfer case, either way the tranny skid would only take a few minutes to remove,Some jeep dealers just stink-I know my local one is a ripoff.
