Post subject:  Wheel Spin

Ok, so this might be a dumb question, but it has me stumped. I know how all the different types of diffs work and all that. A Powertrax LockRight is in the very near future for me!! Right now I'm running the stock "open diffs" front and rear.

Why is it that is seems the right (passenger) rear wheel is always the first to spin? It seems that if both wheels are on slippery surfaces it's always the right rear that spins. Obviously, if the right has traction and the left doesn't, then the left spins. But it does seem to be the right that breaks free first always.

And then likewise on the front, the left (driver) wheel seems to break free first when is 4x4? Is there a reason for this or is it just always coincidence.

Anyone who has more knowledge than me, please fill me in! Thanks a lot

Ever think that they are the same wheel, just that the pinions are pointing in opposite directions.

Yeah, exactly! It seems to be like that (what I described) on all, or most, vehicles though. How come?

That is a very complicated question and with out pics it is very hard to explane

Lets just say that it has to do with the way that torque is applied to the diffs and the way that the pinion gear is spinning causes the right rear to get a slight bit more torque and the front left gets tha same affect ,cause it is spinning opposite the rear
Thats about the best I can do

LSD's will prevent this with out the side affect of a full time locker but if you realy unload on tire it will spin

I will not get pulled into the LSD VS locker argument
LSD is just what it says Limited Slip Diff. locker is what it says Lockin Diff.

Make sure you DONT get a lockright. You want a No-slip.

Slikjr Ive noticed the exact same thing with mine, everytime i get stuck its always the passenger sides fault! I hate open diffs!

im also in the market for a LSD, or locker. I dont quite have the money for an ARB, and Auburn is slacking on developing an ECTED for 8.25. so i might go with a powertrax.
is it worth it?
what kind of road manners can i expect?

whats the difference in the lock-right, and No-slip?

I believe it is because the torque delivery throught the driveshaft causes the rearend to twist down towards the drivers side pressing it harder towards the ground. Ever watch a drag car twist the frame on take off? Think of a T shape if you grab the bottom of the T (driveshaft) and twist it, one leg of the T will go up, and the other will go down. Simple as that.
