SO I took off the Yakima setup I had to put on a Surco Safari Basket and I am thinking bout trying to make something to attach my Yakima accessories to it...has anyone tried this or made it work? I really would like to atleast get the bike trays on to there and my snowboard racks if I can raise them up enough |

Shouldn't be too hard. Just use some 1" (2.2cm) square tubing and some small u-bolts to attach said tubing to the sides of the basket. All of your Yak accessories will mount right to the tubing. Problem solve-ed. |

Hey, snow, can you post some pix as to what kinda configurations you have done.... I would be interested in doing something like this too. Can't you just attach some Yak/Thules to the Surco rails directly or do you need the 1" tubing? SnowgodCCR wrote: Shouldn't be too hard. Our liberty is currently AWOL, but when it comes back I'll take a picture of our setup. We actually got a good deal on off the shelf Thule products, so we are using thule crossbars and feet. It just kinda straps around the roof rails on the KJ and locks into place. It's nice, it goes on and off in about a minute, and all of our carriers fit on no problem. What I was going to do before we found those Thule feet was get some 1" tubing and some u-bolts. I was going to line up the crossbars where I wanted them as far as centering goes on the roof, then drill some holes on either side of the roof rail in the tubing (so that when looking from above the roof rail is centered between the holes), then on goes the u-bolt, holding the tubing in place. I'd take pictures of it, but I never actually had to do it. It would be MUCH cheaper than buying the Thule branded stuff, and probally a hell of alot tougher to boot. I'm going to have to do something like this in the near future for my JK, so I'll take pictures of that build/result once it happens. It should be fairly easy to adapt to the KJ as well. If I wasn't clear enough, let me know and I can try to communicate it better. As for mounting direct to the Surco basket, it depends on the carrier that you're looking to mount. I know for a fact that the Thule 599xtr bike carrier needs the square tubing to work, on the other hand, the Thule and Barecrafters ski racks will work on any tubing (even the factory loadbars on our WJ). So it really depends on which racks/accessories you need to mount. |

Local shop was having a MASSIVE end of season sale, we managed to score a bunch of stuff on the cheap-Bike racks, loadbars, kayak racks... Look on Ebay too, there's always Thule stuff up there. EMS usually has deals on them twice a year or so. |
