Well,
I've been in the middle of an office move.... no time to think, no time to analize, no time for nothing -
the other night I go home on the KJ, park it home on its regular spot (outside in the alley), next morning I decided I want to drive the JK instead - mid day, wife decides time to go out, jumps on the KJ, cranks it up - and that is the problem.... cranks up fine, but KJ does not start - she calls me and asks if I had something to do with it. Of course not!
I'm so busy at work, not even time to think and see if there is something I can do with the KJ. decided to call dealer, have it towed..... Service manager calls me and tells me that he found a dead squirrell inside the engine compartment - not only that, before that it chewed up a bunch of cords, electric lines, etc, etc - probably got stuck in there and tried to chew itself out of there with no success..... Repair cost: $1200
I'm gonna take the squirrell to court.
Insurance claim should cover it....
WEIRD !!

OMG, that's so funny! Well, sort of. Sorry to hear of your (and the squirrel's) misfortune.

BTW, am I ever going to receive my Midwest membership stuff? It's been six months since I sent you my check and forms.

Never ran a wild critter through but did have a cat in the engine bay one time. Oddly enough, the kitty did live. 200 stitches and a cast later the cat was good as new! This was back in 1989 but to this day my dad still complains about the vet bill. If I have to hear him say one my time "you should have left that cat in a little longer"... :P

Man, thats no fun at all. :?

Ive found makings of a mouse nest around my battery area before. It was using the pad under the hood to make it.

You're just lucky the squirrel's family isn't coming after you with a counter suit of vehicular squirell slaughter!!

lol...

reminds me of the time when i used to work in the tire/lube express at wal-mart... one car in particular... i went to change the air filter and the air filter box was completely filled with corn... apparently a mouse had been extremely busy storing food for the winter...

OMG, not funny!

This reminds me of a thread of people who have hit squirrels on bicycles. Messy.... inside the spokes.

What a bad way to go!

I have heard of a cat being inside an engine when it was fired up as well. Poor critters.

Does it chalk up to survival of the fittest, or is this some sort of human intervension?

I suggest if your going to be storing a car for a while, put some Decon under the hood, and some mothballs, also but a rag up the tailpipe, and in the air intake. I had a model A, a squirl made a nest in the muffler, wasnt expensive, just extremely time consumeing.

One of the hikes I do is near the Bristlecones, from a 12000 foot roadend. There's marmots up there that like to chew on the radiator hoses, and the USFS recommends fencing your parked vehicle with chicken wire. Marmots are big squirrels.

One morning last Spring, I pulled out of my garage and drove about 1 mile down the road when I heard a thumping noise from under the hood. Some of the dash lights lit up, the engine was squalling, and the steering became difficult. I slowed down, and something flew out from the side of the Jeep. I thought it may have been a cat, which I have 2 of, but I was not sure. I turned off the engine and popped the hood. Cat fur was everywhere (but no blood), and the serpentine belt had slipped off. I reinstalled the belt, and called home to tell my wife that one of our cats may be injured. The cat showed up later in the evening with some spots of missing fur, but no worse for the wear.

To this day, you can still find cat fur in my engine compartment. And the cat is sitting in the chair beside me as I type.
