Post subject:  Renegade Flare removal / reinstallation

I remember seeing some posts regarding the removal and reinstallation of the Renegade flares including the rivet part numbers, however using search rendered no results. Could somebody enlighten me on how to remove the Renegade flares and put 'em back on? I want to paint 'em up. I'll also need the part number for the "rivets" as well since I believe once they are removed they cannot be reused. Thanks a bunch people!

Rivets, NAPA part number 770-2871, quite a few in a box and I don't remember the price but, way below dealer price.

I believe you can do it with a pair of vise grips and plyers,

Haha, thanks for the back TokyoJoe. Once I get them off, I think it'll be self-explanatory how they go back on. Thank you for the part number KJ04! I just want to know if any special tools are needed, or if there is a certain procedure to follow (remove front to back, i.e.) and what other parts or panels need to be removed (wheel well liners?) so I don't damage them. Thanks again for any info! You guys (and gals :-)) rock!

Hasn't anyone removed their fender flares?

Yes,pop out the plastic rivets and gently pull the flare away from the body. When pulling out you will see the clips holding the flare to the body, just use a small flat tip screwdriver to help the clips come out without breaking them(you'll see what I mean when you start). Also the rear flares have some funky clips holding it to the rear bumber, you can just reach up under and sqease these clips to get them to release.Hope this helps a little.Sorry no pics either.

I appreciate all the help everyone is giving me, however I think nobody really understands what I'm asking. I have an '03 RENEGADE. This means that on the fender flares there are silver metal rivets that face outwards. These are only on the Renegade. These are the rivets that I am concerned with. I know I saw a post somewhere on here, possibly when this site was still on Easyboards, regarding how to remove these RENEGADE rivets, what the part number was for them and how to replace them. I tried searching for it, but the search results came up with nothing. Thanks again, everybody!

Those are "fake" rivets, they do not hold the flare on,they are just there for decoration.

I think SavageUrge would like to remove them to make it easier to repaint the flare.

Thank you LostRenegade! Decorative or not I need to know how they come off and how to replace them, but I also need to know where to get new ones or what the part number is before I can remove my flares to repaint them.

Well, guess you'll have to pull the flares off and see how they are attached,I doubt they are removable without breaking them. They don't list them seperate from the renagade flares so they come already on the flares.

I'm looking to pull mine off and have them rhino lined. So I am also interested in the answer to the question you asked.

Once I remove the black plastic rivets from the underside of the flare, are there bolts or screws or other fastener that needs to be removed? Any special tools needed? Thanks for any info!

The flaer is attached by those rivets in the wheel well AND some pop off clicks. You will need to get behind the flares on a couple of them and twist them with needle-nose pliers. Then you have a couple of pop out things. Just pull away from body.

Those Reny silver rivets in the flares are attached only to the flare from behind. I did not remove my flares all the way and did not take the time to look at what was required to remove them from the flares.

If it is not necessary to remove the "Renny Rivets" then by all means I don't want to. That makes my life a lot easier. I'll just paint around them. Thanks TokyoJoe

Please take and post pictures. I've been thinking about doing the same thing.
