Ok so I took the jeep in the other day to have it looked at. Basicallly the problem I was having was that when I put it in park it would not engage the park gear and I wouldn't be able to turn the key fully back to get it out of the ignition. I would have to hit the shifter up towards the dash and you would hear it click when it engaged and then the key would turn all the way out.

So the dealer told me that the recall was peformed correctly for the shifter(which was supposed to fix this problem) and that the cause is the Shifter interlock cable. They want 250 bucks for parts and labor. Now I bought the extended bumper to bumper warrranty when I bought it. And the service manager says this part isn't covered by my warranty!! WTF!

I dont want to pay that for them to fix it so...... I am wondering if any of you know about this part and if you replaced one and how hard of a job it is, like what all does it entail???? It sucks to cause I am in Vegas for another 3 weeks and my wife is trying to take care of this for me.

Thanks in advance!!!

The interlock cable is just a cable going between the gear selector and the ignition switch. It physically prevents the switch from moving to the Lock and Accessory positions when the selector isn't in Park and vice versa. There's some good info in the service manual. It shouldn't be any more difficult to repair than the emergency brake cable. You may even be able to adjust it.

I haven't had to repair it myself, but I did have problems with it during (and after) Moab trip last year. Brought it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty.

While we were in Moab with this problem, Mike R. showed me how to stick my hand in the steering column and kind of wiggle the interlock cable :) It kind of took care of the problem temporarily.

Maybe try a different Jeep dealer to get it fixed?

The cable is probably going to be pretty easy to get at (on both ends) but I don't know about pulling it out...
