I actually dont think that there is an after market skid to replace the mopar engine skid. And I know there and a couple transfer case skids out there..... Rusty's, Skid Row, and I believe the ALL J's super skid covers it too. You hardly lose any clearance. The protection is well worth the loss of a half inch of clearance |

riptricket wrote: i have the mopar engine skid... are any of the aftermarket engine skids stronger? do they increase ground clearance? I have that skid,it's SkidRow's engine skid.I like it alot, gives you more ground clearance in the front and is way HD compared to the OEM skid(3/16" vs 1/8").

is the engine/transmission skid the same as the front skid plate, except the first does not have that extra lip up towards the front of the kj? |

The tranny skid is different than the engine skid. The tranny skid covers the tranny, and the engine skid covers the front diff and engine. Hd=Heavy duty |

so they are two different skids correct? this is their front skid http://www.skidplates.com/front_skid_plates_02_KJ.htm and this is their engine and tranny skid http://www.skidplates.com/engine_skid_plates_02_KJ.htm so can you buy both or just one? |

Yes, two different ones. You can get one or both. If you wanted to cover the engine and tranny, then you would need two. |

I have yet to really do any damage to my Mopar engine skid, there isn't the big unsupported area that exists further back, and rocks aren't the major obstacle in the Pac NW. I can definitely see where the Mopar tranny skid could be upgraded. It has taken the brunt of the good licks. Transfer skid is right on some heavy cross framing and hasn't been a problem yet here. My favorite protection by far is the sliders, saved the body and paint many times. |

Lift it and put on some bigger tires if you want clearence. Changing out skids isn't going to gain you much of anything. |

riptricket wrote: so which one of these did you get? this is their front skid http://www.skidplates.com/front_skid_plates_02_KJ.htm and this is their engine and tranny skid I've got both of them and the t-case skid to.The first one is the skid that protects the front diff just like the OEM front skid(sometimes referred to as the engine skid),the second one protects the back half of the engine and the tranny(goes from the rear cradle mount to the tranny/t-case crossmember) and is called a tranny skid.Hope that helps you a little,by the way the SkidRow tranny skid is heavy,55 lbs. Here are some pics of my skids on my KJ.http://www.skidplates.com/engine_skid_plates_02_KJ.htm ![]() ![]() |

kolesy is correct. Skid Row no longer manufacturers the (JP-4000) front skid because they weren't selling enough. However, the engine/transmission, transfer case, and gas tank skids are still in production: http://c-comp.com/index.php?cPath=92 kolesy wrote: I actually dont think that there is an after market skid to replace the mopar engine skid. http://www.skidplates.com/images/Page%20Specific%20Graphics/Jeep/KJ/KJ-FSP/JP-4000_View_1.jpg would this one be able to mount to the mopar factory skid plate? i like this because it has more of a lip on the front part. |

Well guess I got lucky getting one 10 months ago kolesy wrote: I actually dont think that there is an after market skid to replace the mopar engine skid. The Skid Row front skid should work with the Mopar transmission skid. riptricket wrote: http://www.skidplates.com/images/Page%20Specific%20Graphics/Jeep/KJ/KJ-FSP/JP-4000_View_1.jpg would this one be able to mount to the mopar factory skid plate? i like this because it has more of a lip on the front part.
