Post subject:  Jeep Liberty Violated (Vandalism/Theft)

While parked in front of my house (while I was home), the passenger window was broken and iPod stolen from the glove box. Nothing else was taken, and no other damage, apart from some tears on the seat from the glass and the door handle being sticky now (probably glass stuck in it).

As far as I can guess, the thief/thieves saw my GPS mount on the dashboard and busted a window to try to find it. It wasn't in the Jeep, but my iPod was.

So let this serve as a warning to anyone with a factory alarm. The alarm WILL NOT go off unless the door is opened.

Does anyone know the part number or a place to buy the mopar interior motion sense/glass break sensor? I've heard it exists as an add-on for the factory alarm, and now that I know I'm a target, I may as well get to hear an alarm for my troubles.

What a bunch of BS!! Mine stays in the garage. I am affraid that would happen to mine if I left mine outside. I don't leave anything visible when I am out and about. Will your insurance cover this?

Nope.

They'll cover the glass with a zero deductable, and the damage to the seat with a $300 deductable, but the iPod is just total loss.

So far investigating the Interior Theft Sensor (IT-s). It's an infrared system with shock sensor designed for vehicles that already have a factory alarm. $130 must be the list price for this module, as that's the number I see thrown around.

Anybody know a model/part number? Is this the same part for all chrysler/dodge/jeep vehicles? I see it listed for a few chryslers for around $66 and for a dodge stratus for $71. jeepparts.cc (jparts doesn't seem to have it?)

Some home owners insurance policies cover something like that. Check it out with your agent.

I also would like this number. Can you add an after market sensor to the OEM system?
Sorry to hear about your lost. I got mine keyed a few years ago.

I did some research on that sensor at one time and never could come up what I needed. No one could tell me if it would work with the factory alarm, or if it was for the after market alarm that you can buy from mopar. I read about a guy getting it on Jeepsunlimited and he couldnt get it to work.. So idk.. Please keep us updated if you get it or find any info on it..

I dont really keep anything in my jeep that someone could take without opening a door.. It would be hard to get a 75lb sub out of a window.. Thats really all I have in there other that tools that are under my shelf in the cargo area..

Sorry for your lose.. I must say it would offend me big time if someone did that to my jeep..

Mine did when someone broke into my crown vic on the street, stole a cellphone, stole the garage door opener, opened the garage door, stole a 1 day old dewault sawsall, stole a 1 week old dewault drill, stole my porta-power jack etc etc etc.

The problem is auto insurance will cover the damage to the car, with a deductable, and the homeowners will cover the ipod, with a deductable, and if your like me an iPod costs alot less than a $500 deductable.

Were I in his position I would look over everything REAL GOOD and make sure they didnt steal about $500 of other valubles from the Jeep. Like his GPS, and sat radio, and a dozen CDs. I would look it over real good, go out and find replacement values, and add it up really well.

I also found out that homeowners insurance wont cover "automotive parts" that are stolen. Its still a freaking possesion that gets stolen.....maybe I should say they stole it off the car huh?

unfortunately I don't have a homeowners (or renters) policy. I probably should, but you're right - the deductible would be well over the price of an iPod, so hardly worth it. As it stands, I don't even think I want to fix the seats, since the tears are very small and I don't want to spend $300 I don't have to.

I think I will be giving this IT-s product a chance. I just found it for $66 listed for the correct model+year here:

https://www.1stjeepparts.com/product_info.php/products_id/1215

"The Interior Theft Sensor (IT-s) is designed for vehicles with a security system. IT-s uses infrared technology to protect the contents of your vehicle. Factory installed Security Systems guard against vehicle theft; IT-s guards against tampering, towing, theft of parts, accessories and the contents. False alarms are eliminated through infrared technology. Complete kit with"

And yes, it does cut off at the word "with". That sentence should end with:

Complete kit w/infrared shock sensor and wiring harness

It's strange actually. I did hear a funny noise and got up to check. Went out on my balcony and looked down at my jeep, and even hit the lock button on the offchance that I had forgotten to lock it. Nothing was broken at that point, though, I don't think.

I would think that for OEM new seat skin(which means new seats i think) the price would be well over $300, in which case I would make the claim(lets assume that a new seat from the dealer costs $450), and pocket $150 and go on with my life.

If I can I will, it's not worth paying $300 to have it fixed, the damage isn't that bad. I'll find out once my window gets fixed if there was any damage to the regulator or anything else inside the door (in which case I'll need to go through insurance anyway, so I'll just let them replace everything since I have to pay $300 anyway).

Not sure if they will just write a check to me or not. In the past I've had the body shop paid directly, which takes the hassle out of the expected re-adjustments. (they never initially adjust for the actual cost, they just assume they can pull more money later).

I placed an order for the interior theft sensor. We'll see how that works out.

Ive always just had the insurance co cut me a check, and then take care of the repair myself.

Looks like the place I was going to buy the ITs from said it was discontinued??

Has anyone ever purchased and installed this part before? I talked to a number of different places, and the only place that has one is a dealership in Harverhill, MA, and they think that it will only work with 02-04 models. Anyone know anything about it?
