There is a whole story here

And an excript for those of us without the motiviation to click the mouse button:

Quote:
Chrysler Group said its domestic sales increased slightly in April, helped by strong Jeep and minivan growth.

The Auburn Hills-based automaker sold 193,104 units last month, up 2 percent compared to 190,095 in April 2006. Year-to-date, Chrysler has sold 730,353, off 3 percent from a year ago.

Chrysler said it plans to focus May incentives on cars and smaller SUVs with a "Maximize Your Miles" campaign.

Most other car companies reported sales drops for April.

They had $6500 cash back for '06 Commanders..
It was a good catch for 06 models.. I am not sure if they lost that much value in 1 year to give that kind of a rebate, or if much changed from 06 to 07 or even 08.. Since they won't be making them after 09.

Yeah the Commander wasn't the brightest idea that Chrysler / Jeep had...

I wonder if the Patriot / Compass helped sell more Jeeps to the fuel effecient crowd?

Not sure about anywhere else but not many JKs around here except for sitting on dealer lots and in the Jeep impound yards around town. So not sure how much they have helped although they will say they have. Now the "new little jeeps" are every where!

Maybe people around here are smarter than to buy them just yet   Of course some people have to go out and buy the latest no matter what it is. I know, like I said there are a ton of them sitting around town here on the storage lots. Whatever color you want should be sitting here waiting

Either way - I like the fact that Jeep is what holds Chrysler together...

Locally I see a few JK's but I see MK's everywhere now. Both the Patriot and Compass's

Jk's are selling like hot cakes over here. I see them all over the place. I even saw a two door this morning with a lift and steel wheels.

I just saw the april sales figures and the JK is definently leading the year over year sales jump. I think it was up 74%

The compass sold 3,200 copies in April, The patriot sold 2,900 copies and the Wrangler sold a whoping 10,700 units [of course these numbers were posted on the internet so I can't verify the accuracy]

I see those EVERYWHERE. I've said it before and I'll say it again, but if the JK was available in '03, that's what I'd be driving today.

That’s good for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. Now if we can get rid of the Daimler division then we’ll be doing even better. :D Jeeps are fun, affordable, hard core, and the women think they’re sexy!

I think so too. Around my area the dealers can't keep them on the lot. I drove past one dealer a few days ago and they didn't have a single JK left on the lot. They usually have a few posed on the grass in front of the lot. I've only seen a few Compass's and like 1 Patriot (I had to do a double take cause it was the first one I had seen in person). Though I have seen quite a few Nitros and Calibers.

I bet the sales will go down this summer when gas $$ go up. Hopefully the sales will go up on the compass and the patriot.

We live near Bentonville, Arkansas, the 4th largest selling Jeep Dealership in the Nation. I’m not kidding, but it seems like 1 out of every 5 vehicles on the road are Jeeps. In the Ozarks, I guess you can stay it’s Jeep Country. Wal-Mart’s Headquarters is here so you can imagine how that impacts the market, especially the sales for the Commander. Cherokee, Wrangler, Liberty, Compass, Patriot, it doesn’t matter, they are all selling like hot cakes. I talked to the dealership last weekend and they said that they sell the Wranglers faster than they can get them shipped in. The dealership usually keeps 50 or so Liberty’s on the lot at one time and 50 or so Wrangler’s as well. Last weekend the back lot was looking pretty thin with a very low inventory. The new compass, patriot, and Wranglers are all very popular. It’s kinda neat to see the popularity.
