Save the $35 and buy some nice air filters for your stock box, the engineers took the time to design a system that gets the right amount of air into your engine, so keep it clean and it'll work as good as anything else.

honesty??? you don't think it would bring true cooler air in and make the engine cooler? i don't really care about the mpg increase or hp, i mean if you get those, it's okay.

No it will not bring cooler air in. It sits under the hood and is going to pull in air from under the hood. Thiat air is going to be much much warmer than stock. The stock kit pulls from the front of the vehicle and that is as cool as it is going to get without a snorkel or roof intake pulling straight from the outside. If you want a RAM air intake for more air, look at a snorkel (airflow is preordering and that is your best bet). Also consider using a CRD Liberty intake which pulls from the front headlight and probably flows more air (but don't cross any deep water or it will be sucked into your motor). You could also cut on your box and make a pipe that draws air from up toward the front head light (like the CRD intake does).

All of this will be moot if the airfilter is too restrictive though, and that amazon.com filter MAY flow more air than stock, but it MAY not-- they don't make any specific claims in the ad and they don't have any numbers to back up anything they say. That is reason enough not to buy it. Even if it does flow more air-- how good does it filter that air? Most air flilters that are "high flow" don't filter worth a crap-- that is why they are high flow. Amsoil makes a filter for the stock box for less than $40 that flows much more air than the stock Mopar filter. It also has better filtration than stock. The amsoil filter also lasts for 100,000 miles or so. If I were you I would buy it and call it a day unless you want a snorkel.

BTW I don't sell amsoil, but have ordered the filters for my CRD-- which needs MUCH more air than the 3.7 in stock form. Even with the stock filter, many on the CRD forum have added air minders to check for air restriction in the box and recorded little to none. If the box works for the CRD, it should work with a stock 3.7.

also keep in mind that if it was that easy to get better MPG or power--DCX would have already done it. air and exhaust will give nice sound, but unless you've done a lot more, the result won't justify the expense (mileage savings)

What they said. The new Amsoil Ea series EAA201 drop in air filter for the KJ is as good a trade off as you will get. It FILTERS well and flows good too. About the only way to really cheaply improve on getting cooler air into the intake is to add an additional air intake to the factory box like a couple others here have done. Drawing hot underhood air into the intake is not going to add any benefit. BTW, I DO sell Amsoil products so LMK if you have any other questions.

CAI kits are a waste of money IMO. Especially ones that don't have some sort of plate to block the filter from the heat radiated by the engine (underhood temperatures.) Save the $35.00 and use it to almost fill up your gas tank.

The liberty uses the same air filter as the Grand Cherokee with the Hemi, someone would have to do a lot of selling to convince me an aftermarket air kit would improve performance. Jack

I put a K&n on the rustys air tube and I am now averaging 1 mpg better on fuel economy. Performance, easier launch and smoother shifting on an auto tranny.

i have a "CAI", and I agree, it isn't worth the money. i found a cheap one on ebay with a K&N filter and bought before I thought it thru. For $15 shipped, it seemed like a deal at the time.

Not always. My other fun car are sissy dodge neons. Chyrsler made both MPG and HP concessions with the intake to quiet it down. You pull the stock crap off and add a short tube with a cone filter on it, and you pick up 7+hp 2-3 MPG and a whole lotta sucking noise.

It was thought that the sucking noise would not be pleasing to the typical college girl buyer (the irony there, ha).
