What is the concensus on the identification "Second Generation Liberty."

Would you call the 05-07 Liberties 2nd Gen because of the re-design? Or would you call the 08+ 2nd Gen because of the new model?

Thoughts?

I ask because I've always thought of the 05 - 07 as 2nd Gen KJs (making the 08z 1st Gen KK), but only confuse those that I talk to about them....

I would say +05 are second gen KJs and 08 are first gen KKs. I know it's only crazy people like us who will know that but oh well.

I agree. I see the +05 kj as the second generation. 2005 was a big change over for the libby. It recieved a new front end, center console, gages, diesel engine etc.

2nd generation of the vehicle named the Jeep "Liberty". the 02's-04's are probably known as the first generation of KJs, the 05's-07's are probably classified of the 2nd gen. KJ, and the KK is on it's first gen. production.

But like Gringo Loco said, we'd be the only one who knows/and or cares.

Just a grill change is not enough to call it a 2nd gen IMHO.

It takes more of a Model change...Size change...New "Letter" as in KK vs KJ

but it all up to interpretation

this ends up happening quite often, its only when a chassis is changed that a vehicle is usually considered a second gen...

after all, the changes on the 05+ on pretty minor compared to the differences on the new KK.

I may be mistaken, haven't some of the Cherokees been referred to as 2nd generation?

Maybe the conversation I overheard was the change from full sized Wagoneers to the XJ as we know it.
