After a 50 Minute drive over country roads with many bends I checked out my rear axle and found the bulb part quite warm to the touch. I checked al other parts of the axle and brakes but they where cool, it is just the bulb with the LSD in it. I also checked the oil level and it was just under the filler opening as recomended. Is this normal? does the bulb part of the rear axle get hot? |

Yes it is normal. I only have tested it by touch but I did notice a fair drop in the temp of the rear diff after switching to Amsoil Severe Gear full synthetic in my wifes KJ. I don't know what gear lube was in there prior to changing. I never did the before and after touch test on my blue KJ but I do recall it getting pretty hot too. I need to get one of those laser thermometer testers for stuff like this. |

As long as it's not to hot to touch you will be fine. When it gets to hot to touch is when you are having some major internal issues.Switching to a good synthetic gear oil will help. |
