Post subject:  Stealership

So im still a new KJ owner, but I just had my ball joint recall done and they didnt give me back my wheel lock key. I wasnt even a mile away, turned around and went back to get it and they said they gave it back to me and that I must have lost it. Are you kidding me, thats crazy. So being late already to work I left and figured I would call them when I got off to speak to a manager, suprise suprise he was no help. So What im wondering is if i should just forget about it and just replace them myself or should I take it further. I mean who knows when i might need to take off my wheel and Im just taking a wild guess to that if I would take it further it would take forever. Any opionions welcomed. Thanks

Kjmurphy, they dont have master lock keys, I asked them. So you might want to check

Any good(key word) tech would have purchased a "master lock set",they are availiable for the public to buy. They are just special sockets that are used to remove them, they also work great for stripped bolts/nuts(I have a set myself, can go up to 19mm/3/4" but there are bigger sizes out there).

Yup, the kit costs about $200(at least the ones I have seen). Lugnut locks only keep the honest people honest.

Yeah $200 is about right, paid $180 for mine(made by MAC tools) for any size between 8mm/5/16"-19mm/3/4",real usefull in a bodyshop dealing with really smashed up cars.

Arent the lugs ruined after they use one of those sockets thats are made to take off lugs that you dont have the key to or if they are damaged. I may be wrong though.

Some yes and some no,doesn't really matter though you never reinstall them unless the key magically appears. Those sockets only work one way, loosen not tighten.

While we are on the topic of lugnut ket sockets! While i was putting mine back on my kj over the weekend the lugnut broke and so did the lugnut key!!( the inside of the key stripped and broke) Weird i know!!!! i wasn't over tighting, not sure what happend but now i have to get the old lugnut off (somehow???) and also buy a new lugnut and lug nut key. Will the stealership sell one lugnut and a lugnut key? and how much are they roughly?

I had to buy a set from the dealer, they wouldnt sell me just one. The new set comes with 5 new lugs and a new key for around 30 dollars. As far as getting them off you can buy a socket set like some of the other members said or you can pound on a smaller socket on to the lug with a big hammer but that ruins the socket sometimes and I would do it as a last resort.

If you're absolutely sure they lost it then they need to replace it.
Just call the manager once every morning until he finds it or agrees to make things right.
If he knows he'll be getting a call from you everyday it'll annoy him so much he'll give in sooner or later.

I would call the Dealership Manager and then the owner if the Service Mgr is a di-ack. The service tech probably has it in his pocket and after work.... goes... Mmmm what vehicle was it from???

If they are that careless w/ a 'minor' and obvious component, would you trust them under the hood and carriage?

The OEM locks are made by McGard and you may buy them at any good auto store... I recommend getting the 5 pc set to secure the spare and turf the one lsingle ock the KJ comes w/ on the spare...
