Sorry if this is a repost, couldnt really find anything on it in the forums but When I stop quickly sometimes my KJ kinda shudders. I know about the driveline slack but it doesnt feel like that it feels like something is hanging up. Its not the breaks I just check to see if they were sticking, and it only seems to do it when its hot, like after a hour or so of driving, mainly stop and go, oh and by the way I just changed my transfer case oil. I put in valvoline fluid in there. Ive used it for years in my other jeeps and it seems to work fine. I dont know if the KJ is sensitve to other fluids and If i should drain it and put mopars fluid in there. I also just changed my diff fluids and I put Mobil One synthetic in there. Any info will help. Thanks Everyone. |

What kind of shudder is it? Does your stearing wheel vibrate? Can you feel vibration in your brake pedal? What part of the KJ is shuddering? Did you recently change your transmission fluid too? The brake rotors could be warped. Usually if it only happens while you are braking it probably has to do with the brakes. No shudders while accelerating? No shudders while coasting and slowing down? If your rotors are warped you'll need to replace them and the brake pads as well. Could be some other things, all depends where the shudder is from. Justin |

I dont think the rotors are warped, The shudder doesnt happen in the pedal or the wheel more like the rear end is shacking. And yes Jeep changed my tranny fluid about a 1000 miles ago. All new brake hardware in the rear anyways, I did brakes about 200 mile ago and it was happening before that too just not as bad. I mean its not horrible or anything just you can feel it a little when you come to a complete stop. Thanks |

hey kjfan, try putting transmission in netural just before you stop. possible could be a locked up tourque converter. if it still shudders in netural than most likey something else in the drive line, bad rear end maybe, did you ever change differential fluid?. also does it do it in reverse? Also was the fluid mopar approved, jeeps are sensitive to what type of fluid you use. |

It only happens when it is in drive, and I used mobil one synthetic in the rear75W90. Jeep recently did the tranny fluid, so mopar got used then. Im thinkin that it just maybe driveline slack, i mean there was always a little slack but now it seems more than usual. Maybe ill pull off the drive shaft and grease everything else next weekend. |

Did you replace the rotors? if not, you should. I personally hate TURNING rotors, because then you're left with less material to dissapipate heat. yech. *edit* Didn't realize this was a months-old thread...oops! |
