What brought you to buy the KJ? My story: Coming from a highly modified new body style silverado, I wanted something that I wouldn't have to worry about. The time was approaching where I needed to get out of stay in for the long run. I was looking forward to owning something that doesn't have to be sparkling all the time, carefree if you will. The original cars I was looking at were A6, A4, Passat. Since my Dad was buying the car, there was a stipulation...it had to have a warranty and be bought from a dealer. Personally, I was looking for something with more room, 4x4, and a non existant after market because I'm addicted to mods. After going for many test drives, I found the A6 and Passat would put me into the same situation I was previous in. I would be stuck at college during the winter months, without reliable winter transportation, and mainly without a warranty. Also, I would probably have modded the thing to uselessness, as I did with my silverado. So, randomly, I saw a lifted KJ with an arb and moabs blind me driving in my silverado at sunset. From then on, I thought there were cool and more importantly practical, something I wanted to look into. I went to look at them and I drove a sport, the goofy cloth print and 'no frills' just wasn't for me, I was having second thoughts about liking the KJ. Then, I drove a limited with 37,000 miles, needless to say I was impressed in the sophistication and convience a Jeep interior had to offer. Later that week the limited ended up in the driveway, bound to be unmoded and driven to the max. I ended up with an 85k warranty, on the vehicle, so if I ever sell it the warranty is passed on to the buyer. Although it's not the most hardcore, cool, good looking vehicle I could have chose, it really fit everything I wanted and needed. I got more room, plush interior, 4x4, warranty, and a newer vehicle to last me though college without worries. |

I hated KJ, I didn't think Jeep would be my primary vehicle .They were noisy, they were clunky and slow, and they were ugly. I drove my uncle's grand cherokee for about 2 years. I thought the noise coming from the cargo area was crazy. GAS + ENGINE kinda noise. I got a chance to buy a new car. I looked at FORD and JEEP. Ford looked wimpy. I went to jeep to buy a grand, but with all the options it was at $40k. I went for KJ, all options, $30k. I picked it up! |

I was looking to replace my 4 cylinder pontiac grand am when it was paid off. I wanted an SUV with real 4 wheel drive. I didn't want a push button or turn the dial "4WD". I originally wanted a grand cherokee laredo, but after research, found the 2004 GC to be not so reliable. I was interested in the 2004 because starting in 2005, the base GC Laredo come with Quadra drive I which is basically all wheel drive. I researched the liberty and found its a pretty reliable jeep. So I went in and bought a 2007 Liberty Sport with command trac and I love it! |

It was between a small, economic sedan or a small SUV. If I could trailer with the SUV that would be the winner but if not then I would use my old PU for that and get the car. Ultimately though it was the diesel. The CRD gave me economy, pulling power and alternative fuel choices. |

Long story ahead: My father went to the jeep dealership wanting a LWB JK, and the salesman offered him a killer deal on the KJ Latitude Edition, which he drove home in that day- leaving our sorry-ass PT Cruiser on the lot (suckers - we beat the living hell out of that thing |

Cliff notes as this is the second or third time this thread has come up... 1) had a golf because I needed a 4 door reliable car, and because I wanted something that had a manual transmission and a turbo. 2) sold the golf 4 years later just after my wife and I had a son (second child) 3) Was looking at cherokees (I refuse to drive Automatic Trannies) 4) Found a KJ for sale in the next state with 8K miles, for $15K, and a six speed tranny. 5) Now I love my Libby, but still miss my golf. -Mark |

Okay I started out with a 1990 toyota 4-runner 2wd yes they come in 2wd big mistake by the way not buying 4x4 to begin with. I used that as local driver from work and back and take out biking. My wife had the toyota camery load leather nice enough car but a little to old persons car. No offence if any of you guys have one. Anyways 4 months of her going back to work from the baby she decided she doesn't want to work anymore and just stay at home with the little guy and watch kids (Daycare). So I drive the camery around and realize I'm not a 60 year old man 3 months of that tell the wife enough I'm not paying $400 Can on a car I don't care about. So found my 2002 jeep liberty limited with 96 000 km on it at a local body shop. Picked it up for $12 500 can and never looked back. I think it will be jeep or death now. Kid loves it and the wife is okay with it. If I didn't have family it would of been a TJ. Maybe pick up a used 4 door JK in the future but for now just wanna pay it off and mod it. |

My wife became pregnant and all we had was my 03 Dakota reg cab 2 seater. I had already started the paperwork on a Willys edition TJ when she steps in and says, "No, I want to look at a Libby." |

We were looking to replace the wifes 8 year old corola with somthing bigger back in 2000 she was in love with the thought of an XJ but we were not married yet and wanted to buy a house we waited and out goes the XJ in comes the KJ we got our house in 2002 and started looking for used XJ's problem is with no more new ones coming out the old ones were priced WAY to high in the $20k range for a USED one I said we should go look at new Jeeps maybe a grand or something ,so we did We gave good thought to a grand but it would be "plain" ,cloth seats I6 2wd plain Then in the show room was a 2004 Limited KJ 2wd with all the bells and whistles she gave it a look got inside and was in love best part it was nearly the same price as the grand We look at some more on the lot and saw the one we wanted ,2003 Limited 4wd bells and whistles even the right color blue, we told the sales rep that we did not like some things about the '04's and we wanted an '03 problem was they only had 2 '03's on the lot a very plain sport ,2wd 5 speed, and the one we wanted This was not totaly true about the '04's but thats OK We also said thet the one they had was the wrong coclor also not true but we are talking about a "stealer ship" here They looked and looked for 3 days to find us an '03 red Limited 4wd not happening so they called us and said that they could not find the one we wanted and I said that we would keep looking UNLESS they gave us the "deal of the centry" on the blue limited ,wich would be a very hard sell in south LA most folks dont want 4wd nd wont buy an '03 if an '04 in on the lot just how the market down here is so they gave me the come in and lets see what we can do Bottom line we got $3000 for a 10 year old econo box and paid less for a limited 4wd than what others were paying for 2wd sports Next I will get her the comander same way |

#1 KJ ) 2002 Liberty 4x4 Selec-Trac Had been driving a Land Rover with AWD and wanted something with AWD that was a smaller SUV. Saw the Liberty and ordered one. The 4WD fun (read $$$) started soon after. #2 KJ ) 2006 Liberty CRD Already knew I liked the KJ (even with continuing Ball Joint problem) and the Diesel was the reason to get rid of 2002. Mileage was a major reason and the Umph from the Diesel cured the percieved lack of grunt from the 3.7L. With the fixes for some issues on the CRD figured out by the members of this forum, I like my CRD even more today...especially with fuel prices escalating again to record highs. Still nothing out there like the CRD regardless of price... and ... still nothing really out there like the 2002-2007 Kjs either. Good solid (crash worthy) vehicles. |

It's the diesel baby. Needed a rig that got decent mpg and still had a decent towing capacity. Not many to pick from with that criteria left out there. Might have went with a Subaru if they were beefed up like the Australian rigs for towing, excuse me, caravanning. |
