I've been having an issue lately where after not driving the Jeep for a couple days (sometimes one day) the battery wont start it. I replaced the battery last week becuase its an 02 with 78,000 miles and the original battery. Thought it was just losing charge. But now this morning, I had the problem again. I just drove the Jeep on Tuesday, then drove my fiances car yesterday. The battery's charge should last one day right!? Whats going on here? PS No, I didnt leave the lights on or anything silly like that. update The fiance actually drove it yesterday. So, it wasnt even sitting for a day... |

So, I had it in at the dealer for an oil change and had them look at it. The deal is that the EVIC (which I installed) is drawing power when the Jeep is off and draining the battery. I spliced it into the little diagnostic thingy under the dash. Is there somewhere else I should hook up the power to make sure it only gets power when the key is on? |

Yeah the DRB pulls constant power. Use either the radio power or HVAC power wires to get the voltage you need |

There are tons of wires that are live when the ignition is on I suggest you run a wire to the rear of the fuse box get your mult-meter and find a wire that is only live with the ignition in the on position. |

Either that or just put a switch in line with what you already have. Quick and dirty! |

Yep. I used one of those for that purpose. Just get a tester and see what one is live with the ignition on only. |

I would'nt think that the evic would draw enough amperage to drain the battery down that soon. How long did you have the evic installed before you replaced the battery? What brand of battery did you buy? Please don't tell me it's a "NAPA GOLD",it's the only thing that NAPA sells thats not very good.I could get you a wiring diagram for a system with evic if you need it.LMK. I had the evic in for a couple months before the battery problem started. I just put in a Mopar brand battery. |

I bought a Dakota new in 97,seems like I had three new Mopar batteries replaced in about a year. They said they had a bad run on them, and my last Mopar battery lasted about 5 years,so maybe so? Need to go somewhere where they can perform a "Load Test". If you bought it at a dealer they will usually do this at no charge.Or if you have another vehicle with a top post battery, you could swap them out for a few days and see if the problem transfers to the other vehicle. We've had good luck with Interstate batteries where I work, but every once in a great while we will get one that will only hold a surface charge, and won't pass a "Load Test". Keep us posted. Ron |

Quote: We've had good luck with Interstate batteries Really? Here in the military most of our batteries are interstate batteries and last about a week if your lucky(I'm not kidding either, many don't last a week). No wonder why it cost so much for the defense budget, they buy $190 apiece crap batteries,it's sad when we can order Optima red tops for $50 less then the Interstate batteries and we've hardly ever had a problem with the Optimas(only problem is poeple keep stealing them out of the trucks and putting in those junk batteries |
