When my new Liberty hit around 3000 miles it felt like it started running quite a bit better,
not bogging down on hills as much, and a little more willing to shift into the correct gear when necessary.

Only a couple things that bug me..................
Around 35 to 45 it locks into overdrive running below 1400 rpm, sometimes getting down to 1100-1200 rpm.
This is sort of ok if it's flat, but the slightest incline and it feels like the rpm's are just too low.
Anyone else notice this?
Do most of you just keep overdrive off all the time when in the city?

Brakes. After I parked today and turned the Jeep off, I noticed
if I shake the Jeep by moving around in my seat the rear passenger brake will creak & groan.
If I wash it and hose off the wheels real good, and it sits for a few minutes, it will really make a terrible noise until it drys.
Is that anything to worry about?

Other than those 2 things all is well. I dig it. I'll dig it a lot more when it's paid off.

All sounds normal.

The increase in power could be alot of things.

Give her some more gas when accelerating and you wont noticed it locking to early. Mine only does that when Im being easy on her..

Congrats on the new jeep!

I have an 05' so it's similar (though not identical) to yours and I've noticed a few of the things you mentioned:

1. After a few thousand miles the Jeep feels 100 times better. The engine seems to be more responsive, somehow more powerful and shifts more smoothly.

2. After washing the Jeep the brakes do always squeek. I'm not sure that this is a problem, because it has not become anything more than a temporary squeek for me.

enjoy it!

I can't give it more gas because I'm cruising along in traffic.
Just seems like the computer would recognize a bogging engine, and downshift.
Guess I'll just have to get used to the old overdrive button, or get used to my poor engine crying for help.

Anyway I'm starting to like it more and more as the miles accrue.
Can go 90 down the interstate and it is just as smooth as it can be, and then turn off on a forest road and go anywhere I need to go.
I can't wait until I pay off a majority of the loan. I just can't bring myself to scratch it up and have fun with it yet.

Yeah after the first few loan payments go by I am sure you will be much happier about the first scratch.

The OD button is probably your only saving grace in traffic situations

I had put my first scratch in mine before i made the first payment :D . I just couldn't wait to take it into the Rancocas State Park and put it to the test.

Creaking when you move in your seat? You may need to drop a few pounds! J/k, I had to write it. I hear various creaks and sounds when driving, stopped, or parked. Someone on this board advised me a while back, "It's a Jeep thing..." That gave me peace of mind. The KJ will never ride or sound like a Lincoln.

The overdrive RPM drop takes some getting used to. I hit the O/D off button when I'm about to accelerate uphill, such as a freeway entrace ramp on an uphill incline.

So how about the air conditioning?
It really seems to rob the power from the Liberty.
Haven't had it on for a while until the drive home from work today.
I get a noticeable loss of power when accelerating and it seems a little jerky or sputtering.

Your not kidding. I get 12-13mpg around town with the a/c on and medium to heavy acceleration.. I have to beat the stinky poo out of it to get it to move, especially pulling out into traffic. Scary sometimes.

Good call. I haven't noticed a loss of power with the a/c, but my city MPG dropped from 14.5 to 12.1 recently. I attributed the change to a recent valve job, but maybe it's the a/c. I'm going to leave the a/c off for a few days and see if the mileage improves.

Really? I guess with my antique variant of the KJ I never really noticed a power drop with or without the A/C system...

As for the squeaky seats - mine do it too and I only weigh 180. I always look forward to winter and hearing the styrofoam insulation in the rear door? squeak when it shrinks.

Hmmmm? I haven't noticed any drop in power with the A/C on. For the last couple months I've been making a 36 mile roundtrip run to town and back every day. It is almost exactly 1/2 city and 1/2 freeway driving. I've averaged a steady 19.2 MPG every day, with or without the A/C.

I didn't really notice a change in power as I put on more miles but the over all MPG did improve after the first oil change at 2800 miles.

I really notice the loss of power when going about 35 to 40 and I need to accelerate (even with O/D off).
If I'm driving down the interstate I don't notice anything.
When I hit close to 3000 miles I noticed that the shifting of the auto tranny was more responsive. Before when going up a hill for example it would like to bog down first and then finally downshift. Seems to downshift quicker now. Feels smoother also.

I have the same issue with the squeeling brakes. It always happens when it is wet or really cold. I heard somewhere that the brakes will apply themselves when wet to keep dry.

As for A/C, I havent notice a considerable loss in mileage or power when it is on.

I noticed the A/C hogging power when I need to accellarete suddenly.. So when I am on a ramp to the highway and if I know that I gotta squeeze in a few cars going 50mph, I always turn off my A/C and speed, since I gotta catch up to the flowing traffic... Otherwise I will have the car on the right line (which I am supposed to be in front of) up my booty..
Yes, that's NY traffic.

New to the forum here, not new to Jeeps or KJ's. Had 3 XJ's starting with an '85 that changed it's own oil from a V6 2.8 GM piece of crap. then to a '95 Then to a '96 XJ. Now i have a 2002 KJ and a new '07 KJ. AM I NUTS OR WHAT???????
Any wya about the paint scratch. At the 450 mile mark I was parked in my parents double wide driveway, and i had started the engin, put it in reverse (NOTE the order of things here) put on my seat belt and started to back up. Some thime between the time that I got in the car and started to back up a friend of my mom pulled in DIRECTLY behind me and right up on my bumper. With the whole drive way to her disposal she pulled up behind ME and with my back-up lights on. Oh yeah she was driving a ford station wagon so it sat lower than the rear window visability om My NEW 2007 Liberty. As I started to back up i hear a horn just as i slam into her, denting the tail gate as the spare tire puts one hell of a crease in her hood. Think I was pissed, still am. Any way $450.. dollars estimate later i used two nuts to lift out the bottom spare tire mounting pionts. looks like new, only I am still pissed. Pics of new KJ coming soon.
