Yes that is a take off on the old Tear Drop trailers . Little more squared off and easier to build. Would make for a great weekend camper for sure. |

Cool trailer. I saw one made from a CJ5 once and I came real close to doing the same w/ an old beat CJ5 I had for a while. I decided the last thing I needed was another project so I lost the CJ. |

Why? Go buy a beater flat bed or old boat trailer and build just the top section. Much easier and I'll bet if you start w/a used setup for a base it may even cost you less. |

Plus if you start with an existing trailer base, you have no motor vehicle registration problems to deal with. Some states require you to jump through all kinds of hoops with inspections and certifications for a "home built". Issuing a Vin #, safety requirements, etc. |

I'm not handy with photoshop but it would be nice to see a trailer made from a KJ. |

Last one is like buy a wrecked KJ or XJ and rip the front end, cut it weld it, there you got a nice trailer. |

Dunno that door looks kinda weird. I would probably remove the door, replace it with sheet metal and place a horizontal hinged door across the glass. Just my opinion. |

Only problem is, look at how much is in front of the axle. the weight on your hitch would be 3/4 of the weight of the trailer. You would never be able to haul anything in it with out using a weight distribution hitch and it still would not handle well. Trust me I built a trailer out of a Dodge van back in 1979, cut off right behind the front doors, worked on it all winter and then pulled it maybe 10 times, way to nose heavy. I know where it is still sitting if you are interested |

I agree tommudd.. you would have to chop it off at the front of the back doors to get closer to a useable trailer for anything heavy, but if you just wanted a camper trailer it might work as shown. wouldnt it be cool to chop it off and leave the back seats in with the belts Would be a fun place to ride on easier trails |

If I remember right, the Rambler/AMC front spindles and hubs were 5X4.5 and they are a flanged 4 bolt install for anyone looking to build a custom axle for a trailer. My granddad used to build boat trailers and utility trailers out of them. |
