Hi everyone,

With 78K miles I was debating some preventitive replacement of my
front bearings ('02 KJ LE 4x4, non-ABS). I'm seeing prices from $200 per side for the part from Napa, and $290 per side from Jeep. Yikes!

How tough are these to install? Do you have to free the knuckle to do it? Do you have to free the drive shafts to do it? Although way out of my comfort zone for wrenching, I wanted to see what kind of hit I was going to take on labor from a mechanic for the work. All day this could be a $800 or $900 job - kind of a lot for just 'preventitive'. :(

Also - In the parts list thread (for the 'berrysprinter' site), the hub/bearing is not even included - I found that somewhat odd. Maybe because it is a 'unit' with the knuckle?

Thanks!

Todd

Thanks!

Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever regain any of my 'smarts' that are apparently spilling out of brain at an alarming rate:

I totally spaced looking in the Tech section.

DOH!

I just checked CSK (Checker, Shucks, Krager) and they offer BCA hub bearings with a one year warranty at about $260 each.

Looks like the 'inexpensive' ones Roachman covered in his post are LONG gone!
