Another issue with my 2007 KJ that only has 3K miles! Seems pretty minor, at least I hope!

I have only found this to happen after the vehicle has been sitting all day/night and when going in reverse. There is an extremely high pitched noise, sounds like its coming from the brakes.....As soon as I go into drive and take off it goes away.....Does this even make sense? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Is it kinda a buzzing sound? If it is it's the shift solinoids energizing in the tranny,or if it's not it's the brakes sqealing from being cold(normal)

It's more of a high pitched, loud, squeel....The brakes being cold, was my first guess, but it doesn't make sense to me. This problem just started a week back and is VERY loud....It literally woke my fiancee up this morning! She was asking about it when I came home for lunch!

My 07 KJ has 1,800+ on it and I have heard nothing like this. I am going to listen closer and watch this thread close.

I've heard a similar noise on my '07.
It was just the brakes though, and it was very loud for a few days.
Embarassingly loud, but it went away.
They make a real ugly sound when wet, like after washing out the tires with a hose.
The last time I washed my Jeep a couple days ago, I didn't get anywhere near the noise I usually get.
I have about 4700 miles now.

Strange that your's only happens in reverse though.
The squeak I had would happen when going through my parking lot real slow, but would go away when I sped up.

I'm taking her into the dealer in about an hour.

I'll keep everybody posted.

If the sound only occurs when you hit the brakes = brakes/surface rust on the rotors/pads

If it happens with or without touching the brakes = ?

When the weather gets cool where I live, by the ocean, my brakes squeal like crazy until I use them for 20-30 feet. The metallic pads must rust a little bit over night in the salt air.

I have the same symtoms. Only when cold and\or wet.

I figured it was the brakes warming up or drying off.

Just got off the phone with the dealership.

They confirmed the noise was in fact coming from the brakes. They looked at the pads, rotors, calipers, and E-brake adjustment and couldn't find any issues. However, they stated they have never seen a vehicle act like this.

I'm going to pick it up today and drive it, hoping the noise gradually goes away....If not, will try another dealership.

Strange noises could be from a lack of proper peanut butter levels in the mag light holder area of your Liberty?

I'm truely sorry to hear about the noise - might want a second dealer to check it out for you just in case.

With the command-trac, you REALLY hear it in 4-LO.
