Post subject:  Rear window and 245/75s...

I'm almost sure I saw this posted somewhere here before, but a search turned up nothing useful.
I just had some 245/75/16 Destination A/T's put on my Renny. Now it's hard to open or close the rear window without it getting hung up on the spare. Any easy way to fix this issue? I like the spare on the back, so no roof mounts for me.
Thanks!

I think I read or saw someone take the spare tire mount and flip it upside down. I think that's what it was

I dont know if that would work. what you could try is go some stainless steel washers that will fit around the screws that attach the tire mount to the door. try putting like 2 or 3 washers on each screw then reattach the mount and see if it clears. Be carefule not to make it stick too far out as it will pull on the door and could possibly damage it.

I've read of a couple people doing this, also. I think they said it gave the window about 3/4" to 1" more clearance. I should be getting my spare next month, so I'll get to see how well a 245/70R17 fits.

Higher backspacing rims fix it - I never had that problem with my Moabs. I'd say flipping the mount is your best bet.

About a year or so ago someone posted a part number for an adapter that pushed the tire back a little and resolved the problem.

I just put 2 3/4 spacers on mine, washers would work. Just the top two.
it tilts out enought to clear the window

Interesting... I have 245/70-16's, which are no problem with the window in original configuration.

However to accomodate my trailer hitch, I flipped the tire mount over, which RAISED it up an inch or so. At this point the window started skimming the top of the tire, and I added several washers to the top bolts and that gave it the clearance needed.

Not sure if this helps, but it seems to me that flipping the spare mount raises the tire, unless mine was upside down to start with ;-)

Just flip it 180 degrees

The 180 flip on the tire mount raises the tire a bit and angles the top out - so more clearance bottom and top.

Flip it... or, the washer thing is easier. Put in a couple washers, and BAM... there ya go! I actually made a custom riser, just took some flat stock, drilled a few holes. Raised the tire so I can use my hitch without any trouble and clears the glass. love it

Thanks for the tips, guys! I'll experiment this weekend and see which way works better.

My 245/75's fit fine with the backspacing on my cragars but I also added washers so I could put in bolts in the two empty lug holes. I didnt like the look of just three so I put washers and two bolts. Makes the spare look better and would probably also fix your issue

You could try the spacer listed lower on the page

Most stock wheels will cause the window dilema when you have the 245/75/16's. The backspacing on the Moab rims are perfect along with other wheels with similar spacing.
