637 miles on the odometer, and it finaly is sorting itself out. Early on in this relationship i complained how the automatic transmission would set its goal at getting to the O/D gear the fastest and never letting go of it. I sometimes would have to manualy shift it in and out of O/D and sometimes move the shifter sequentially from 1 to 2 to D with the OD switched off. NO MORE!!! It now responds to driver input, holding 1st and 2nd longer to allow for more "spirited" highway merging and it allowed me to peek at this engines broad power band, yet thrashy engine note. actually it reminds me of my moms 3.5L Nissan Pathfinder SE. Im really starting to miss my scion xB in regards to the warm welcome to audiophiles, with its 160-watt Pioneer audio system with MP3 player and Aux-In jack. I can forsee a head unit swap out in the future as i dont like FM Modulators and i do like having 80+ tracks on a single cd... Fuel economy has jumped significantly. When it was newer, 14.6 MPG seemed to be the figure this 3.7L SOHC V6 loved the most. however recently that number has increased to 17.31 MPG with mostly city driving and 21.2 on a recent highway roadtrip to Colorado Springs. that puts it right in line with its EPA numbers of 17 city and 22 highway. the average so far on 5 FULL tanks of gas however is a not so bad 16.03 MPG. The engine has drank a little bit of engine oil, but no where near eye-brow raising freak-out mode levels. This was expected since this car has been on many highway trips and in rush hour traffic in the city, and those late night excursions to Sonic since it was put into service 1 week and 6 days ago. And now, for the feature that i love. if i wrecked this jeep, this feature would make me want to buy it all over again. Nope, its not the host of driver aids, not the 4WD either, not even the nimble handling/ride of the jeep itself. its the flip up rear window, which can be actuated by the remote, that makes loading 2 grocery bags at a time so easy! my friends arent as impressed with this feature, and may even think im a little crazy, but i do love it and i hope it never stops working becuase id probably not want to drive it while it wasnt functioning... |

Mine didn't sort itself out until close to 3000 miles. Started shifting better and a little better mpg. May have had to do with the dealer putting 30wt oil in instead of 20wt at my first oil change at 700 miles. Put 20wt in at 3000 miles. I wish they would have put a little blurb in the user manual that explains how your vehicle may not run too good until 1000 miles or whatever. It would have been good to know. |

i kind of figured this transmission would be one of those ones that "learn" their shift patterns over time. but yea he drove pretty crappy for a while then all of a sudden, magic happened, lol. and i love the driving position this SUV has. at 6'0'', 109 pounds, im pretty lanky and the liberty offers great comfort, and great steering wheel adjustment, unlike the scion which had like 3 degrees of adjustment... |

The New Revised EPA estimates put you at 15/20 at: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm So you are actually doing better. The site also has a chart which makes tracking mpg and $$$ spent v ery easy. |

its just a habit now.. I dont even know when I do it.. Kinda like driving a standard.. I still use the magic OD button, but it's not as bad as it was when I don't. My Jeep was doing some weird thing on hills when brand new where it wouldn't want to downshift to climb a hill and would make a nasty sound. That rarely happens now. |

You are 6'0'' and weigh 109 pounds????? I hope you're a girl, otherwise that is some freakishly low weight. I'm 6'1'' and fairly slim and I weigh 200 pounds. |

I used to be 227 till i started hitting the gym. Anyway yeah the transmission kind of "learns" your driving style so to speak. |

And I think you OD button pushers may have taught your trannys some bad habits? I was wondering about that. Wonder if by pushing the button it doesn't get programmed to shift correctly with it on. Who knows? For some reason they like to leave it a mystery as to how it works exactly. ps. I can't get over the fact that a 6-foot dude weighs only 109 lbs..,,,,,,,...must be almost skeletal. Are you being held captive and starving somewhere? Type a secret code of your location and a team of Libertys will show up for the rescue. Do you want me to order you a pizza or something? |

He rode with me at our last LOST Rockies event. His first off-roading ever so he was just out to see what it was like by doing a ride-a-long. He is lean. |

Yeah, the hooks really only hold short plastic bags. The tall paper bags just kind of flop around on the way home from the store. |

Do you want me to order you a pizza or something? since its electronically controlled i assume (what in this jeep isnt???) im thinking maybe it wont learn the correct pattern. i did it for so long then i kinda stopped doing it for a few days and then it started doing it on its own. ps. im not being held captive, lol. i just never have the appetite for any thing. simply put... 60 bucks worth of groceries will last me a month and a half. if i order a pizza, it will last me a week or more unless my roomate gets ahold of it... one slice for dinner holds me until dinner the next day. about once a month i have the night where i pig out because of all that food i have that i didnt eat from the months and months before is sitting in my freezer about to get freezer burnt. so to prevent myself from waisting food i cook it all up, and feed folks here in the dorms and pig out! |
