Post subject:  Geting Code P0161 and coolant leak...Help

Hi all,

Geting the following code on my 03:

P0161 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)

Any thoughts on how to fix this? I usually have my uncle fix this stuff, but he is swamped with work and I don't want to bother him if I don't have to.

As for the coolant leak, looks like its leaking where the lower radiator hose goes into the engine block. I'm guessing the dealer in NM screwed it up when replacing the coolant. Is there a gasket between the block and the plastic fitting or is it just sealant? Doesn't look like the fitting is cracked on initial investigation. Ordered the lifetime hoses from AllJ that I'll install when I take stuff apart to fix the leak.

Thanks in advance,

In my experiences with the heated O2 sensors, the heater within the sensor itself is what goes bad.So replacing the sensor, without running a flow chart, seems to be the best bet.We don't have very good luck with aftermarket O2's,so you should consider getting it from the dealer. While your there they can also show or tell you which one is bank 2 sensor 2,and if it's upstream or downstream of the cat. conv.

On your coolant leak, take a second look at the waterpump weep hole,if need be use a mirror to be sure the waterpump is not the culprit. On the sealing of the lower hose connector, the dealer can again advise you of whats needed to seal it.Keep us posted.

As far as the lower rad hose leak goes, there is a plastic gasket that seals the t-state housing(which is plastic to) to the lower block.Maybe they reused the old gasket, which your not supposed to do,so that may be your culprit for your coolant leak.

I just fixed a similar coolant look in the same area. I replaced the thermostat and replaced both upper and lower hoses with the BRX liftetime hoses. That seemed to solve my coolant leak.
