Post subject:  112,xxx miles and loud knocking noise

I bought an 02 libby from my used car department a few days a go because I knew the truck was headed to the action anyways. I tried changing the oil and seafoaming the truck but the knock is still evident. At one time the knock almost went away entirely. At first it sounded like a rod but I am thinking it may be a lifter.
In addition, I have access to a junkyard engine w/ 30k. miles on it for $1300. Should I just change the engine or try to salvage the one I already have?

How loud of the knock? Mine has one on start up but it usually goes away after the engine warms up. It can be kinda loud in the winter..

Wrist pins can go and cause the piston to slap the cylinder walls. I bet if you took the valve covers off you would find some serious "sludge". Vavle springs are also suspect...they crack.

the knock is loud and only went away once. As soon as the ac turned on the knock resumed and has not gone away since. Is it a better idea to just purchase the used engine than repair the one I have?

have you had the A/C off since then? The pulley on the A/C compressor seems to rattle pretty loudly on mine but, it goes away when the A/C is off.

I would say if you can't find the problem up top...vavle/lifters/ac compressor...put in the 30k engine. Save the other engine for a stroker kit...lol

I got suckered into purchasing the engine today (They said they had someone else interested it as well) 1300isn't too bad for a complete drop in assembly. I will have it installed in the next two/three days by one of my mechanics. After all the work I did in my chevy I am burned out on working on vehicles on my only days off.

anyone having noise with the blower units should take it in for the recall.... i got a letter in the mail from DC, and had the blower motor replaced... due to a potential fire hazard
