| Post subject: | Engine Intake Sludge |
*Did Search* So I was poking around the KJ today and decided to check behind the Throttle Body. I have a WICKED amount of sludge build up. 1) Does anyone know a very concentrated product that will eat this stuff alive and make my intake squeaky clean? 2) If no, Does anyone have Mopar instructions/illitrations on the removal of the intake manifold, and part numbers for the gaskets, so I can use the degreaser at work to get it factory clean? 3) Any other advice? This is bad sludge, like the crap monster from DOGMA is living in my Engine. The oil shows little signs of sludge build up. Thank you. |

id suggest trying seafoam. just be prepared for lots of white smoke and you neighbors to think something is on fire. just suck it in threw the brake booster line let it sit for about 5 minutes then fire the motor back up. and itll do the rest of the work. id suggest a spark plug replacement and a oil change after it tho. |

Where do I find this........ SeaFoam Yeah, Im due for an oil change imminently, and Im putting in some new plugs that are more properly gapped. Probably Iridium's, if I can find them in the proper gap (cant gap them). |

Stock Mopar filter. I've changed it twice since I've owned it. I dont think the last owners were as kind to this KJ as I was. I bought it VERY low kms, it was a lease return. |

Your best bet is to remove the throttle body itself after running Seafoam through it and give it a good once over with a high quality degreaser/parts cleaner. It's a very easy process and takes about 5-10 minutes depending on your familiarity with your engine compartment. Make sure to clean the blade and the cylinder and dry it off leaving no sludge or dirt - you want it nice and shiny! Of course the easy way out is to have someone rev your engine up to about 2000rpm's while you shoot the TB with the degreaser. Do a good thorough job of it and don't spray it so much as to kill the engine while spraying the TB. |

I also took the TB off and gave it a good cleaning. Ran seafoam through it as well to finish her up. |

I have this degreaser at work I used to use on my Rotary rebuilds. Its by far the strongest degreaser I've ever heard of. It will eat anything but metal and concrete. Is there a TB upgrade availiable? Might do the whole, well, you know its off.............upgrade thing. |

If it isn't safe to use on plastic do not ust on the throttle body let alone the intake! Use only cleaners that are safe for plastic parts like seafoam. They also make throttle body cleaner to,made for plastic parts so safe to use on the KJ.

Its plastic safe, they keep it in a plastic drum. The degreaser is more or less an organic degreaser. It eats away oils, grimes, carbon, etc. If you get it on you, it will burn through your skin. You have about a minute to pour the neutralizer on the effected areas. Its rough stuff too, even the fumes make your throat want to close. Anyways: You just spray. I usually agitate (light scrubbing). Let it sit for a couple minutes, then rinse off. For heavy grime, I use a pressure washer to rinse. I found it strange that the intake manifold was plastic. I've seen plastic valve covers before, just never manifolds. |

be careful with that stuff just becuase its stored in a plastic container doesnt mean the intake manifold is made of the same plastic as that container. it can still melt the plastic. just use seafoam its safe and does a great job. |

X2------If it burns your skin don't use it on your intake or any other part of the engine.Just trying to save you some money(from having to buy a new manifold or TB).

I'll check the MSDS sheets tomorrow and talk to some of the mechanics. They use it on just about everything all the time. Except humans of course. Its B-502 or something degreaser. |
