In general, I'm not complaining about my MPG or the Liberty - I just want to get a feel for any changes in peoples habbits. For example: My Liberty was the DD up until the recent run up in the price of gas. And as a result the wife and I drive her car everywhere while the Liberty sits in the garage. We even carpool now! Lately I might drive the Libby once a week at the most but sometimes it sits even longer without even being started. All because it is just cheaper for us to drive her Sebring. So I am just curious to see if anyone else is modifying their driving habbits. I forecast the results to be a major NO - but I thought it would be fun to see |

No, still flooring still fuming the hell out of it. It can't get any worse than it is (my mileage) so I just drive as it is. If I complain I wouldn't change the way I drive, I would sell the Jeep go buy a hybrid. |

The KJ is my only transportation, so I do drive it a lot. But I keep it at 55 to 60. After that the gas goes pretty fast. Terry |

MY KJ is my DD also and I still wheel,it's harder for me to get the time to wheel verses the cost for the gas when I'm on a 7-day a week work cycle. |

i do ride my bike to work when its not 90+ degrees outside. because it makes no sense for me to drive the jeep 1.13 miles to work... |

The price of gas is why I bought the CRD (well, that and the notorious longevity of diesel motors), so I have to vote "Yes," the price of gas has "effected my driving habits." We also bought a Miata instead of the Mustang GT Convertible that we both wanted when my wife needed a new car....again, because of the price of gas. I still tend to rocket off traffic lights though, and I drive with the speed of traffic, even if it's 80. So it hasn't effected how hard I press the acceleration pedal, but it has effected WHAT I drive. |

I drive the liberty every day to work some 60 miles round trip, but really think twice before going any other distance. That being said I'm driving it some 950 miles to south dakota on friday |

Until it got really hot lately I have been driving my "extra car" and leaving the KJ sit. But with the heat, even getting 28-30 mpg is not worth the fact that the AC is dead in my '88 Olds Ninety Eight Delta Regency Brougham (yes that is the full name which even shows on the Title). |

Mine is a DD and we have been driving my fiances Miata back and forth to work and running errands. I really dont like the small car to be honest, once in a while is ok but not all the time. Cant beat filling up once every two weeks though compared to the Lib which is twice a week. |

Mine is a DD as well and I have changed the way I drive a bit. I take it easier off the line and when on the highway I'll stick to about 63mph. Other then taking it easy with the acceleration everything else stays the same. Then again I'm driving to Moab, Utah here in 2 weeks so we'll see what happens, i've estimated about $700 round trip for gas....luckily my aunt and uncle will be helping cover that bill. I've also bought some performance air filters, K&N and the AMSOIL (most recently), oddly enough though around town the stock air filter performs better then the K&N filter. Haven't had a chance to test out the AMSOIL one yet, but it will get tested soon enough. Details on performance will be up in about 2 weeks time. |

I never did get "good" MPG in my Liberty. But, I have a very heavy foot... With that said, I have a few pointers for saving bucks that I follow. --I try not to gun it off the line, Well, when I have the MPG estimate displayd on my EVIC anyway. It is a constant reminder! A very painful one! --A/C usage. I try not to use it much. I cool it for the family before they get in and I use it on really hot days. Windows down is Jeep'ish anyway! Yep, it gets hot in Houston, Texas. A recent high was 106 on my EVIC. --I feel it doesn't adversely consume fuel at high speeds. So, I actually get better gas milage at sustained high speeds. The faster the better! Just not off the line. I believe that gas prices are just plain bad! Tho, I was raised during the days when it was felt that there would be no gas to buy when I was old enough to drive. Well, I do have gas to buy and I now have to pay 3 times the amount as when I first started driving. 20 years driving...not bad price per gallon inflation. It's just funny how my 2005 Liberty has waaaay worse MPG than my first car a carb'ed 1979 Mercury Capri. Chris |

Lets see over Memorial Day took a 1900 plus mile trip, just got back from Boston, 1500 mile plus last weekend and pulling a trailer no less, getting ready to go to Southeast Ohio and back 550 mile trip in a week or so, Gatlinburg and Dallas are upcoming trips so the answer is .......NOPE Oh and I use the AC all the time, I drive at 70 plus ( gets the best mileage at 71), I started out driving when gas was 39/42 cents a gallon so I think about it but I will not sit on the front porch moaning about it either I bought it to drive and drive it I will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 82000 miles since September 21, 2004 so I do use it! Gas for me was 1.30 or so when I started driving a little over 10 years ago... What I really want to know if today's price of gas (60+ USD to fill up each time) is effecting the way people drive their Liberties. Possibly a spin off of this would be: if you don't drive less, where to you take the extra money from? My assumption was that most wouldn't mind the higher costs but so far I appear to have been off base. |

Terry ......... and when the attendant wasn't looking you could flip the lever back to zero the pump out and start over. I hear tell that "some people" could fill up their tank for a $1 that way. Seriously though, I leave the display set on MPG, watch my speed, use the cruise control religiously, shift into neutral on off ramps and combine trips as much as possible. So far, my combined City/Highway is staying in the mid-19 MPG range. |

Absolutely it has. When gas was closer to 1.50 a gallon I thought it was getting high but didn't change my driving habits. Now I look at trying to go to Moab and realize gas would be the number one expense so I put it off. I don't venture out as much on the weekends, and don't go as far. Please let gas prices come back down or by some miracle let my 3.7 learn to drink bio-diesel. |
