Post subject:  Aux-in adapter causes Keyless Entry to stop working

Hi all,

I recently bought on ebay this aux-on adapter for my '06 KJ: 180120906763

The adapter itself works fine, BUT, it causes the Jeep's Keyless Entry System to stop working. In other words, when the aux-in adapter is connected to the factory radio (through the CD-changer port), my key-fobs do not work at all and I cannot lock /unlock the car remotely .
If I unplug the aux-in adapter, functionality of the key-fobs returns. I have tested this more than five or six times and every time it's the same.

I have asked the seller (ebay store called GromAudio) to advise on what should I do to have both the aux-in adapter AND my Keyless Entry System working :? .
In the meantime, I thought I would share this with you guys, in case any of you has any good idea.

Cheers,

X.

Hi Zool, and Welcome to L.O.S.T. :) Most likely the person you bought this from does'nt know much about how the system operates with keyless entry. You would probably have better luck talking to your dealer on a solution like re-programing your key fobs while this device is hooked up.I've been a auto tech. for 25 years and I have'nt seen this problem yet.Hope this helps. :)

Ron

Hi Ron,

The guys at GromAudio where I purchased the adapter from, responded to my email and promised either to solve the problem with new firmware or a refund. I'm not really sure how the new firmware might be applied to the aux-in adapter, though...
They also said it would take them 2 weeks to sort out the problem, so in the meantime, I think I'd better get to my dealer and ask for his help, as you suggested.

You're right, it's a very strange issue - so I'll keep you posted :)

This sucks!! I am planning to buy one of these myself...

Could it be something with overseas KJ's only? I have NEVER heard of this happening before!

ZooL, keep us posted! :D

I have the USA spec adaptor plugged into the back of my CD changer port and notice zero problems with the key FOB or alarm. It has to be the device you purchased... Especially if / when you unplug the device your key FOB starts working again.

Good luck man

Edit: Here is a link to the adaptor I use. It's expensive but you pay for the quality and the easy connection

Oh good, the USA SPEC one was the one I was looking at. Glad to hear you have no problems with it, thanks!
