mine has been rattling since the day it replaced the last one that gave out
it gave out right in front of a jeep dealership too

I asked the guy at the dealership and they go out alot and they make noise if it really bothers you then you may want to look for aftermarket ones(dont know if there is any). Other than that chalk it up to Its a Jeep.

Maybe someone else has had better luck in clearing it up.

Goodyear? How'd ya install it? I ordered one from National Auto Parts and it came with a 3 1/2" idler pulley. Mine has a 3" idler pulley went to dealer and checked out '07's and they have a 3" idler pulley also. Tried to put it on almost right against the crankshaft pulley. Had the same problem with the Dayco aftermarket one. Joe

Joe-there are two size tensioners and belts going around for the KJ. Your noise is probably from a mismatch between the belt and tensioner. One tensioner requires a longer belt than the other.

There were about half a dozen different belt "updates" and part numbers when mine needed to be replaced last year! I had a long thread on which PN of belt went with which PN of tensioner. They changed the pully size and material as I recall.

I'd make them keep changing it until they get it right. When I had the wrong belt on, it only lasted about a day before it flew off! so if you've got the longer belt, it won't last.

Also, if you don't have the mechanical fan, changing the belt is CAKE. Can do it on the side of the road in seconds. Trust me on that one.

FYI
I put a goodyear gatorback belt on mine and the noise started. It's still under warranty so I took it to the dealer and he said that that belt in particular is a little wider/thicker causing the tensioner to rattle. I bought a mopar belt and the noise stopped. Go figure!...whatever works. :D
